It began with an anonymous source providing EGMNow with a supposedly leaked logo for an upcoming Need for Speed: Underground reboot.
However, it didn't take long for developer Criterion Games to shoot down the rumor, as creative director Alex Ward took to Twitter to clarify the interesting situation:
"Totally fake. Remakes and Reboots? #movedon."
He added another update that hinted at a completely new IP in the works at Criterion. He wrote- "May as well add this. Sequels. Reboots. Remakes. Been there. Done that." Okay, so what might they be working on? The racing kingpins have recently helped rejuvenate the Need for Speed franchise, producing the two highly acclaimed Hot Pursuit and Most Wanted titles in 2010 and 2012, respectively. And of course, those were essentially reboots, so why not Underground ?
Well, it doesn't seem like it'll happen. The question now is, what are they doing? It can't be another Burnout because that'd qualify as a "sequel," yes? Maybe they're trying a whole new genre…although I'm not sure I'd want them to try. Sometimes in this industry it's best to stick to your guns or in this case, your wheels.
Related Game(s): Need for Speed: Underground
It would make sense to assume that.
Hot Pursuit and then Most Wanted? A logical step. I believe Criterion should go back to Burnout.
I don't mind them shooting down the rumor, but any devs out there make a Need for Speed Underground 3 or reboot dammit.

This news makes me sad 🙁
Iv been waiting for a Need For Speed Underground 3 to surface. Am the only one that missed all the customisation options it had instead of sets of kits that look like crap?
oh please be BS!
criterion, EA, NO MORE WORKING ON NFS TITLES TILL WE HAVE HAD ANOTHER TWO BURNOUT GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope they say April Fools, it is Need for Speed Underground.
Would love to see that series reboot and like vatoloco47 said above the customization is awesome. I can spend as much time designing my car as racing it.
Exactly right Tim Speed24. It wasnt all about the racing with Need for Speed Underground series. You could take your time making your car look nice and just free drive around the city
