It began with an anonymous source providing EGMNow with a supposedly leaked logo for an upcoming Need for Speed: Underground reboot.
However, it didn't take long for developer Criterion Games to shoot down the rumor, as creative director Alex Ward took to Twitter to clarify the interesting situation:
"Totally fake. Remakes and Reboots? #movedon."
He added another update that hinted at a completely new IP in the works at Criterion. He wrote- "May as well add this. Sequels. Reboots. Remakes. Been there. Done that." Okay, so what might they be working on? The racing kingpins have recently helped rejuvenate the Need for Speed franchise, producing the two highly acclaimed Hot Pursuit and Most Wanted titles in 2010 and 2012, respectively. And of course, those were essentially reboots, so why not Underground ?
Well, it doesn't seem like it'll happen. The question now is, what are they doing? It can't be another Burnout because that'd qualify as a "sequel," yes? Maybe they're trying a whole new genre…although I'm not sure I'd want them to try. Sometimes in this industry it's best to stick to your guns or in this case, your wheels.
