Journey Takes Home Top Honors At GDC

More honors for Journey and as always, they're well-deserved.

Thatgamecompany's stellar downloadable title, Journey , was the big winner at the 13th annual Game Developers Choice Awards last night in San Francisco. It won Game of the Year by beating out The Walking Dead , Dishonored , Mass Effect 3 and XCOM: Enemy Unknown .

Journey also won for Innovation, Best Visual Arts, Best Downloadable Game, Best Audio and Best Game Design. Feel free to check the full list of winners , which include Far Cry 3 winning for Best Technology, The Walking Dead landing Best Narrative, and Dishonored earning the Audience Award. The story, however, obviously centers on Journey which continues to be the darling of the video game industry. It's great to see a game like this garner so much widespread love; it really flies in the face of those political idiots who think all video games are about shooting things, doesn't it?

For our Game of the Year Awards 2012 , Journey won Best Music, Best Artistry/Art Direction, Best PSN Game and Best PS3 Game.

Just had another look through the PSXE GOTY awards and find myself questioning how different games won "Best PS3 Game" and "Game of the Year". Surely they are the exact same thing? If the GOTY is Dishonoured, surely that makes it the best PS3 game? Sorry to bring up an old topic, just curious.

Have there been any rumors of Journey hitting the Vita any time soon? Sony should capitalize on that option.

I like to think Journey portends a new kind of game we can look forward to next gen — smaller (and much less expensive) games that explore very different territory than your average AAA blockbuster and provide us unique, moving experiences in their own right. I love many AAA games, but I love that we appear to be moving toward a gaming world where we have many different styles of games to choose from.

I'm with you. I watched a walk through video on YouTube, to see what all he hullabaloo was about, and all I saw was a lot of running around and beige – lots and lots of beige.
