Ubisoft Acquires THQ Montreal, Along With South Park Game

THQ has managed to shed several assets in the past 24 hours; first came Koch Media/Deep Silver's acquisition of Saints Row and Metro and now, Ubisoft is getting into the fun.

The Assassin's Creed publisher has announced the acquisition of THQ Montreal along with the publishing rights for the upcoming South Park: The Stick of Truth , which is in development at Obsidian.

Ubisoft Montreal president Yannis Mallat said that "this deal adds experienced developers to our internal creative teams at a key moment in the cycle of the video game industry. Furthermore, Ubisoft has received a "new, yet-to-be announced IP that is still in development at THQ Montreal," which will join Ubisoft's design teams. As for the wacky South Park adventure, that still has a vague "TBA 2013" date but so long as it comes out this year, we'll be happy. Obsidian is kinda hit or miss, though, and this generation…well, let's just be optimistic.

I wonder what else THQ will get rid of in due time…

Damn, I was kind of hoping that Ubi would buy THQ outright, lock, stock, & full barrels.

Have you seen how they treat the PC market? I'm glad Sega bought relic.

Pandacastro,

Nahhh, Except for Bejewel 2 & 3, I'm not a PC gamer at all.

So I really haven't got a clue as to if & or how the PC gets treated by any gaming companys.

Is this thing gonna sell? I mean South Park was popular when this old man was in Highschool; is it still a hot property?

wonder what the unannounced game is?
im SO disappointed to see who metro and saints row went to.
isent deep silver the guys who published dead island?
yea, not exactly the best highest quality highly polished game out there………
giving these franchises to them is like giving the ferrari license to suzuki!

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sad to see vergil go as well.
sigh, i guess the darksiders franchise is dead in the water!
sad.
they were apparently working on a totally new IP too………
🙁
if there is a gaming god out there he will convince $ony to buy the franchise, and have sucker punch and $ony SM collaborate on darksiders 3!
and this time, for the love of pancakes, bring the franchise back to the originals style!
both graphically and gameplay wise!

Will be getting the South Park game for sure! Still one of my favorite cartoon series after all these years. And it looks like a turn based rpg which is a bonus 😀
