You know, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time comes out on February 5. That's only a few weeks.
I'm starting to get that same sneaking suspicion I got just before Twisted Metal launched last year…the feeling that these older PlayStation franchises just don't resonate with the new generation of gamers.
Twisted Metal got plenty of critical acclaim and didn't sell half the number of copies it should've, and I believe it's simply because it was too late to the party. The last installment on a console was 2001 and the bottom line is the gap was just too big; the young'uns today hadn't even heard of it. Sure, the average age of a gamer in the US is 35 (if you choose to believe that statistic) and there are plenty of older gamers who were anxiously awaiting the release of the new TM. I imagine it's the same for the new Sly Cooper .
But I'm afraid that it'll fall on deaf ears. Darn good thing the price is half what a new title usually costs; that might help matters, but I still think the game faces an uphill battle. Not only have too few avid game consumers today even heard of the series, the competition is stiff. We've already got DmC: Devil May Cry , Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch launches this week, and Dead Space 3 releases on the same day as Sly Cooper . Furthermore, Sly isn't exactly catnip to the casual fans out there; it's not a shooter and there might be too much "cutesy-ness" involved to appeal to that group. Sorry, but it's the truth.
Anyway, I'm just a little concerned. So I'm hoping the hardcore PlayStation fans respond, at the very least.

I hope it does well. It will most likely deserve it (being from a different developer). The other 3 are great games!
Im not sure how it is calculated, but on IGN's "top games coming soon" sly 4 is second behind Gears of War: Judgment. Just something I found interesting.
I've noticed that. It's topped the PS3 list for weeks.
You can rest assured that I'll be buying Sly on February 5, Ben.

I sure haven't. Come on people $40 for a cross play title.
i've got it on my list
I've owned all 3 Playstation consoles, yet for some reason have never played a Sly Cooper game. Am I missing out? Should I get this? I just never heard a lot about them from friends etc.
Yes. Yes.
I'm in your same boat, want to play those games but never got around it yet.
I'm sure you got ur PS2 after 2005.
I Played all the Sly Cooper games and if you know the story ,Sly Cooper thieves in time is going to be Epic.
I'm getting it for sure, like cLoudou said, $40 is great for a cross-buy cross-play title. I also enjoyed the first ones; and I want something different.
I'd rather get the sly cooper game than all the other games you've mentioned. I was turned off by the dmc demo. I still believe ninja theory's best game was heavenly sword. To be honest, I've never played the sly cooper series on the ps2 But i also never played the ratchet and clank games on the ps2 but i love the ps3 games. I have the Vita so I'll definitely get it if it's cross buy
Was never for me but the fans are ardent at least. It's never a good idea for a series to stay away for too long, maybe they should put the HD collection on Plus for free to generate new fans.
I'd like to say I'd be buying it when it releases but I bought the HD collection and found 2 worse than 1, and 3 worse than 2. I finished 2 barely, and finished maybe 20% of 3.
I just can't support a game/series when I have to force myself to finish an instalment and can't finish another.
Really? The series got better with every installment and the whole oracle and batman resemblance was interesting with it.
For $40, I instantly got interested. I will most likely buy it.
I still need to get the collection since I never play them before. I'll probably buy both the collection and the new one for my nephews and just borrow them when I finish with my backlog.
I plan on buying this. I played the Sly collection, but couldn't get my daughter interested in it. Even after explaining to her that she would see some of the mechanics for inFamous taking shape, I couldn't get her to play it. I think the games were a little more challenging than what she's use to.
they will thanks to $onys BRILLIANT marketing and organization skills!
no advertisement, no demo, no press events when was the last time you read a preview from IGN, ect, ect?
no attention from gaming events like gamescom, ect, and releasing it in such a busy month.
feb for the US is bad, but march for the rest is suicide!
hmmmmmm, buy this or buy bioshock infinite?
sniper ghost warrior 2?
god of war ascension?
gears of war judgement?
ect, ect, ect.
