So what were you playing in 1991? Was it Alien Breed on the Amiga? If so, want to revisit a fond memory?
As revealed at the game's Facebook page , British developer Team 17 is bringing their old-school action game to the PlayStation 3 (via the PlayStation Network) and Vita in early February.
It will include cross-platform multiplayer between the PS3 and Vita along with ad-hoc local and online co-op entertainment. The addition of the new expansion packs – Convergence, Valiance, and Synergy – bring the total number of levels to 30, and you have the option of playing with the original or the "enhanced" graphics. This classic top-down shooter should be played with the original visuals, but it's still nice to see an updated version of such a nostalgic title.
Me, I never had the Amiga, but a friend did. I don't even remember if that system was very successful… Kinda went in one ear and out the other.
Related Game(s): Alien Breed
classic games on Vita are just the best. Looking forward to this one.
Old school wins.
This is available in the PlayStation Mobile section on the Vita's PSN Store right now.
"I don't even remember if that system was very successful"
– wow, dude, it was like the grande finale of the entire "home computer" era, before IBM/Intel and Apple took over!
Practically every games developer from back in the days have at *least* one foot in the Amiga camp. Bethesda started on the Amiga!
The Amiga introduced "workbench"/desktop to the masses, and was a fantastic tool for creativity: music production, graphics, 3D modelling, video production, programming… The entire demo-scene springs from the Commodore machines (Amiga is the successor to the Commodore 64).
… And of course, gaming. Monkey Island first appeared on the Amiga! Syndicate! Lemmings! Speedball!
The Amiga is legendary, and was a huge sales success!
