For die-hard JRPG aficionados everywhere, this is the game that likely sits atop their "must-have" list in 2013.
And the best part is that they'll be able to sample it early. Namco Bandai Games and Level-5 have announced that a playable demo for Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch will hit the PlayStation Network on December 4 (tomorrow!) in North America and a day later in Europe.
The demo will allow you to battle not one, but two of the game's "most infamous bosses:" Guaridan of the Woods and Moltaan. If you weren't yet familiar (and that's unlikely, especially if you've been following RPG news in 2012), Ni no Kuni is the new JRPG developed by critically acclaimed studio Level-5. It features artwork and cut-scenes courtesy of the iconic Japanese animation company, Studio Ghibli, along with music from world-renowned composer Joe Hisaishi. The gameplay itself isn't purely old-school turn-based but at least it's partially turn-based, which is more than can be said for most RPGs these days.
Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is scheduled to arrive on January 22, 2013 in the US.

This game looks really interesting (and I don't think I've ever played a JRPG in my life, so that's saying something). I'll definitely be trying this demo.
Also, hi guys! I've been coming to this website for about three years now but have never bothered to sign up and comment. I really like how mature everyone in the community seems to be, which is sadly hard to find in the gaming community. And obviously I really like all the articles and reviews by Ben and everyone. So yeah, hi. 🙂
Hiya and welcome to PSXE!
Welcome!
Welcome here. I agree with your statement about PSXE being mature. I have only seen a few times in which immaturity surfaced and thankfully, it was quickly ended.
This is a great website.
Anyways, when you say "partially turn-based" Ben, what do you mean?
Hi there Eunoia!
Max, he means it is an action/turn based hybrid.
Hehe, fresh meat for the grinder!!
Welcome in, Eunoia_
Thanks everyone. 🙂
A few times pontiac? lol. Just a few?.
yay, this is on top of all my lists. I like everything about it. Going to play this all year in between my semester project. nice inspiration on all i need to work on myself.
I already got to play this at Eurogamer, utterly sold on this. Level 5 making a classic turn based RPG with the art direction handled by Studio Ghibili… can it really get any better than so?
It really seems like this will deliver the JRPG experience we have craved for on the PS3 for so, SO long! I have yet to even play Rogue Galaxy but I know this is a day one purchase for me, I may even get the special edition with the Magic book. Big hopes for this and a great way to start out an exciting year for the industry.
You should pick up Rogue Galaxy if you can find it. It's also more action based but there's lots of great JRPG staples in it you can't get anymore.
Rogue Galaxy can't be missed! It has SO much to do in it seriously get it. One of my favourite level5 games ever.
Played the demo already. Was already excited for the game but after the demo I just can't wait any longer! Wish there were more RPGs this generation. We are sorely lacking them :.
Wooooooo BANZAI!!!!
D1D (day one download)
I have high hopes for this one. I like this guy's anime movies( i like Princess Mononoke best) so I'm interested to see Miyazaki's work in game form.
I'll definitely check out the demo, I'm already preordered but there's nothing like a good teaser play so I know what to expect.

I've got this pre-ordered but I'm still looking forward to playing the demo. I didn't know one was coming, so this is a pleasant surprise.
This game is mine. I hope it sells so well that Square Enix is left dumb founded that people actually like more traditional JRPGs.
Hoping that that is the wake up call they need/the push that is required to get FFvs13 into my hands.
YEah. You n I both, man!
Not gonna lie, I'm gonna buy this game regardless and I think playing the demo will make the wait unbearable. I will not be downloading, but for good reason 😉
I plan to purchase this at the full price of $59.99, which is a rarity for me outside of Gran Turismo, to express my appreciation in such JRPG game.
I can't imagine how shallow this generation would be without Level 5. Coming into the generation it was Final Fantasy and SE that I depended on. For obvious reason, that wasn't the case. There has only been one main FF entry, and it's not exactly the JRPG I enjoyed and became a fan of. On top of that, they're milking it. Of all the times a FF title could be made into a trilogy, it has to be FFXIII! They shouldn't even go as far as making a third title in any FF. Seriously SE??! Arrgghh. Rant over.

YEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!! Ohhhh man. This creation brought such warmth with its design and music.
It looks like a pure and simple great tale & adventure!!!
Level 5 made this game so I will probably get it. Probably. But I will be playing Ragnarok Tactics soon. So many good rpgs on Vita.
COD FOR YOU AND ME!
End of Line.
The demo doesn't show on PSN… and I'm registered on the North American PSN… what gives? :/
PSN updates at around 7pm eastern time for me. Sometimes earlier sometimes later.
Your a little early 😛
