Dragon Age III “Postponed,” Has Become A Next-Gen Title?

When EA announced Dragon Age III: Inquisition a few months ago, many just assumed it'd launch some time in 2013 for current consoles.

But that may not be true. According to Superannuation (via GameSpot ), a LinkedIn resume of an EA Shanghai employee says the "scope of Dragon Age III has changed, and it is now planned for next-generation consoles." And evidently, the game has been "postponed" until 2014.

Of course, this doesn't mean the game won't come to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360; it could be one of those titles to straddle generations, releasing for both current- and next-gen systems. EA hasn't said anything on this issue just yet and given the time frame, they may not for quite a while. Personally, I'm okay with waiting until the new hardware arrives; I've always thought Dragon Age could've used more powerful machines to reach a new level of technical achievement. These games have been a little…muddy and unstable, even though they're still lots of fun and worthwhile for RPG fans.

I think it'll be a trans-generational release. There's no hurry for it though. Gamers can just wait for all of it's DLC to finally release and then catch the ultimate edition whenever it launches some many months afterword.

oh, and it'll probably get a different "better" ending after enough time as well.
=p

I guess this means I'll have to upgrade my PC soon (I don't like playing dragon age with a controller).

It'll play better with KINECT I'm sure.

I could see playing Dragon Age I with a keyboard and mouse because that's how the action was structured but now I couldn't imagine using it on the new battle system.

I couldn't say for DAII, but having finished Origins both on console and pc, pc is definitely the superior version. There's nothing overly major that changes, but there are enough small things that make the improvement significant.

Ah, see Dmiitri with DAII the fighting was action-oriented instead of ordered by decree and I think III will actionize it even further.

That very well may be the case. I may find out someday, but as of now, all I've done if it is the demo. Hopefully, DAIII will reverse that and go more towards Origins again.

Even with the more action-oriented combat, selecting targets, abilities, and setting up spells is easier than using the radial menu, or at least it looks that way. I could be wrong, never tried the PS3 version.

I guess that's alright, that's one game that needs a bigger scope after DAII.

If I could cross the adventurous RPGness and big world of Dragon's Dogma with the strong narrative and characters of Dragon Age I'd really have somethin'.

Wow. Something tells me the PS4 is right around the corner.

I better start saving my money.

Just finished DAII last week and I gotta say, I was a huge fan of the Dragon Age world, have all the books, loved the first game. Second game was a huge let down and I think they need to take the extra time on 3 to make sure it not only is better than 2, but at least on par with the original.

surprised so late.
this has been in development for quite a while, so why so late?
maybe there delaying it since they decided it should be a next gen launch title, and they wont be available till 2014?
guess that puts the rumors of novemember 2013 to rest.

I love fantasy shtuff. I'm amazed it hasn't been eradicated by the massive trend toward gritty shooters. Swords always beat guns, unless you have a gunblade.

I love swords too, but in futuristic settings! Babes'n'swords, agility to the maxxx in a high-tech world.
– "What's going on here? Is it a fight? Is it a ballet?"
– "Who cares, it's *gorgeous*!"

Man I gotta make a RPG sometime.

Simply postponed? Next gen dev kits must be easy to migrate to?

Well, the engine is the same (Frostbite) and the architecture (x86) remains the same as well so it's basically just a question of more power, not a different technology to migrate to.
