Valve Picks Possible Dream Directors For Half-Life Movie

We haven't seen it yet, but that doesn't mean a Half-Life movie won't ever happen.

In fact, Valve writer Marc Laidlaw has obviously been thinking about it quite a bit; specifically, he has been thinking about the best possible director for the big-screen project.

Laidlaw comes up with three top-notch options:

"If Paul Verhoeven returned to science fiction films, he would do something insane with Half-Life…maybe something objectionably insane, but at least not boring. Peter Jackson has proved himself an amazing purveyor of faithful adaptations. Guillermo del Toro has the horror vibe that I think a lot of people miss out on when thinking about a Half-Life movie. Half-Life is essentially horror after all. The science in it barely passes as hand-waving, but when a headcrab jumps at your head, it’s a precisely engineered jolt."

You probably wouldn't go wrong with any of those guys. Verhoeven is best known for the smash hits "Robocop" and "Total Recall," and I think we're all familiar with Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy. As for del Toro, he directed "Hellboy" and one of my personal favorites, "Pan's Labyrinth." He's also working on a new game, inSane , which has apparently found a new home. We just need to learn more about it.

But as for a Half-Life film, I actually want to see that happen. They first started talking about it nearly a decade ago (2003) when Half-Life 2 debuted at E3. Maybe it's about time we had a big-screen adaptation, yes?

A movie like this needs a lead character. Half-life suffers from silent protagonist syndrome. One which gets more praise than it should in my eye. But they are only going to make a character of this Gordon Freeman which fans will no doubt find off putting.

Get Neil Blomkamp (or however you spell his last name) director of District 9 to direct with Sharlo Copley to star.

Let's see what Half-Life 3 has to offer first.

Why is that? The movie wouldn't take away from focusing on the game, nor would the movie be focused on the 3rd games story (at least it should follow in succession).

I don't know if Half-Life 3 will ever happen, but the movie won't have any affect on wether it does or not, or even when.

People love that game, I don't see why Valve doesn't continue it.
