It's always sad to see a workforce reduced from over 200 to less than 50. That's never good news.
As reported by GamesIndustry International , the developer responsible for the last few James Bond entries has been forced to lay off more than three-quarters of their studio.
Here's part of the official statement:
"Eurocom are undertaking a restructuring which I regret to say has meant we've made the majority of our workforce redundant today. This includes many very experienced, talented and highly skilled employees, and we'd like to thank them all for your hard work and efforts."
Studio director Hugh Binns cited a "steep decline in demand for console games," which has therefore left the company with "no option." Right now, Eurocom is only going to retain a core staff and they'll be mainly focusing on "mobile opportunities" moving forward. Yes, well, there is lesser demand for some console titles these days but let's face it- 007 Legends couldn't have helped. Did anyone buy that?
Never heard of em. Guess that's why they are dying.
If all these dev keep going mobile next gen is going to suck.
Not as long as the good ones stay. I don't mind one bit if we lose out on a handful of low ranked games next gen.
Let's face it: Some developers are better shaped for simpler platforms. It can be beneficial for all platforms.

I agree, some devs like nilihistic are better of as far away from game consoles as possible. But good devs like lightbox are almost being forced into mobile development because there game aren't selling which is a shame.
Not really NewCloud. The problem for developers such as this is that they may have experienced or talented staff members but their projects suck. Mobile games are almosth throw away software they are cheap and cheerful and people buy them because if they are no good, they can be disposed of. The risks in developing crap games in the mobile market are far lower than in the console market. So if you are a console developer that makes crap games or makes good implementation of crap projects (aka crap games), your future is probably going to be limited to mobile games since the tolerance level for crap there is so much higher.
The net result is that the crap will go to mobile, and the not crap will stay here and be rewarded by full price paying customers.
sigh, why cant companies be honest for once?
instead of lying through your teath and treating people like morons, why cant they just say "due to us releasing strugling to keep up with console standards"?
sorry guys, but you have NO ONE but yourselves to blame for this!
hell, you cant even get james bonds line right!
in the latest game he says james, james bond.
christ!
its bond, james bond you idiots!
christ, if you cant get 1 simple synonymous line right what hope in game development do you have!?
hell, what hope in life do you have!?
"steep decline in demand for console games,"
Sorry, but I doubt many people are gonna buy that one. Is there a decline? Sure there is, but it isn't a steep decline. After looking at a list of games they have made I can see why they are making the move as they should have never been in the console industry anyway. They may be a top contender for shovelware in my book.
Too bad, the new Goldeneye was actually a good game.
