Analyst: GTAV Might Sell 25 Million In Its First 12 Months

We know Grand Theft Auto V is set for Spring 2013, and we know it'll be a colossal, mammoth release.

It'll be interesting to see if it can break sales records; GTA usually does, but the Call of Duty explosion this generation means GTAV would have to sell huge to outstrip some CoD record-setters.

But hey, it's possible. And as far as first-year sales go, EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich told Now Gamer that Rockstar's hotly anticipated open-world blockbuster could sell upwards of 25 million in its first year of availability.

"In the case of GTAV, I have little concerns about when it is released. Whether April, June, or even Winter, I’d expect GTAV to sell in upwards of 25 million copies in its first 12 months."

He did add that the current market is "softening" due to the ending console cycle, but he still believes the market for big-budget AAA titles will remain healthy for some time. Personally, I don't see why GTAV couldn't sell 25 million in 12 months; GTAIV ending up passing 20 million in the first year, didn't it? Or were those lifetime sales over a span of a few years? Either way, GTAV will be a hot seller and that's probably an understatement.

It's hard to tell at the moment, I personally am not hyped for it yet, that could all change after I catch a glimpse of the new trailer mind you 🙂

Though this article doesn't really talk about GTA V other than potential sales.

I'm curious to at least see this new trailer, if I like what I see I doubt I'll watch anything else either. GTA IV didn't live up to the hype for me so I won't follow it this time.

I wouldn't be surprised at all. It's the only game I think that can compete with CoD sales wise.

As I recall Ubisoft just said huge AAA titles were dying out. Take that.

I dunno, remember watch dogs? Remember? If someone had to choose between watch dogs and the incredible GTA series, what would they choose. If things have changed in GTAV then sure, but if its like gta4, which was my least favorite story-wise, maybe it won't be as popular. Watch dogs looks new and incredibly awesome so it might affect certain sales. Just speculation though no need to become angreh

this is the last system seller. i believe it will do those numbers & even more. also believe we wont get official news from Micro or Sony about next set of consoles untill 6-12 months after GTAV is released. reason being neither sides would want to intefer with sales flow….. then again, the future is unpredictable.

totally depends on when it releases, and on what systems.
if it does release next may for the 4 systems now, plus ps4 and 720 than i wouldent be surprised to see it sell better than that.
but if its only on current systems, than its down to when will next gen systems come out?
if their announced shortly after release that will hurt the sales of this.
if not than maybe its a bit ambitious, but certainly not impossible.
especially if they release it on PC same time, and the EMB and ice mods are available launch day for it.
still remember the first day i downloaded those, i thought i had found a window into the future.
god they look amazingly real to life!
up until 3 seconds later and my PC was giving me smoke signals……………….
