It's almost inevitable that the ardent gamer has a wish list but what if you're buying for an acquaintance and not a close friend? What if you only know what he or she doesn't have? Lotsa games to choose from…
Well, maybe you have to take a look at the holiday season's best. Maybe the obvious options are Assassin's Creed III, Dishonored , Need for Speed: Most Wanted , and the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops II , Halo 4 , Hitman: Absolution , PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale , and Far Cry 3 .
But maybe you have other recommendations for the gift buyers out there. Perhaps there's a game that came out earlier this year that the recipient of your gift missed, and maybe it's a fantastic title. Right now, there are probably quite a few clueless parents and girlfriends and wives (and boyfriends and husbands) out there, who are just looking for recommendations from those "in the know." So if someone came up to you and asked, what would be your recommendation? What if you could only choose one title? Which would you go with?
if your into rpgs, you cant go wrong with any of the ff's of old, the kh series, or the .hack series.
for the modern gen though, wkc, the ac series, heavy rain, and maybe some lbp or modnation if your more casual.

Unrealistically: Mass Effect Trilogy
Realistically: Call of Duty Black Ops II

SSX and XCOM. My favorite games of the year.
The only person I buy games for is my daughter, so the title I would suggest is for a 13 year old with a Vita.
The title I would recommend is LittleBigPlanet. I know she would ask for ACIII Liberation, but this Santa watches out for game ratings.

Depends on the person but I'd be thinking along the lines of one of Sonys recent collections of Infamous, GoW, uncharted, killzone and or others.
I'm too cheap to pay for a current $60 game even for myslef (usually) Sorry.
I'd also consider a PSN game. I think that has a gift system. Find a good one like Journey or Joe Danger. Those two seem like low cost safe bets.
This just in: i got an email from Gamestop rewards zone program that, through 11/14, there is 50% off on select Sony HD collections that include R&C, J&D, GOW saga, Ico collection, Journey collection edition (flow, flower, Journey), Killzone trilogy, Uncharted 1&2 and Infamous 1&2. I'm not the most ardent GOW fan, but 5 games (gow1, gow2, chains of olympus, ghost of sparta, and gow3) for $20 bucks, which is $4 bucks a piece, is nearly theft!

Do you know if you HAVE to have an active Power Up card to utilize the coupon? I got the email with the coupon but despite that my membership is expired.
'Tis a good point, Sensei Temjin. I'll have to check, and get back to you, b/c I'm pretty sure my membership has been expired for some, too.
nothing too excites me so far, i am still in my D3 paragon leveling mode. lol i will come back to ps3 when the last guardian is out.
Oh, I don't know. Black Ops, ACIII, Dishonored, XCOM, Hitman, there are a lot of options. For me though, I'll have to pass. I simply will not have the time, as sad as that :/
Black ops 2 is an obvious choice, but Need 4 Speed: Most wanted is a great choice. Anybody can pick it up and play, the cars are sexy and every time you hit the gas it's exciting; something's gonna happen!
Been one of my favorite games of the year. Heck, it's completely stopped me from playing AC3! Correction I was never able to start AC3, because of NFS!

as much as i hate to admit it, because the story sucked!
id have to choose ME3.
it offers allot of game for the money, can be found pretty cheap, has heaps of DLC out and more coming, and those space battles oh god im back watching starwars again!
oh and the story may of sucked, but the combat was just SO much better than 2!
so much more than anyone could of expected!
and thats exactly why it was so disappointing, becuase the thing that should of been a surefire hit wasent, and the thing that was always lacking with the series was just perfection!

Yeah – a lot depends on for whom you are getting the game. For any of my close friends I'd get them BL2 without even blinking. For anyone else,who likes an excellent story – AC3.
I would never buy anyone I truly cared for CoD. 😉
If they don't have em yet, the Journey collection. I think just about everyone can appreciate thatgamecompany's games.
For me, on a Nintendo system rated for everyone, I will go the Mario games who hasn't experienced it yet.
Im getting my girlfriend a necklace for christmas. Its all shiny and expensive. I know that when nino kuni comes out i will be buying her that though. As for a gift to anyone in general, NFS mw. Just because its fun to play with friends and offers plenty to do. If your not a racer than AC3, because theres co-op MP missions (wolf pack) and the story and of course the MP. If not that either than… I can't reccomend RE6 because it has no MP. People don't seem very excited about single player experiences anymore. Well, aside from the readers of this site of course.
