Oddworld Remake Gets Renamed, New Footage Released

Okay, so the new name is a little long. But it still works.

An Oddworld: Abe's Odyssey remake has been in the works at Developer Just Add Water and at first, everyone was just calling it "Oddworld HD" or something like that. However, according to news freshly received at the Eurogamer Expo , the anticipated upgrade has the official title of Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee New N' Tasty .

Remember, the game is being entirely remade from the ground up, so perhaps "Oddworld HD" wouldn't have done justice to such an ambitious project. The critically acclaimed title was an original PlayStation game so yeah, it probably needs to be entirely rebuilt. New N' Tasty is scheduled to launch this fall for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC and Vita, and they've tossed out some new footage as well. Man, I remember this…it was one of my favorite games of the entire PS1 generation. So unique, so beautiful for the time, so challenging…just so freakin' cool.

That does look incredibly tasty in 3D, they seem to have preserved the atmosphere to it's peak. Even the majority of the sound effects are the same, I always loved the mechanical noises of the sligs. This is definitely on my radar now 🙂

I wonder if they'll adopt the Cross Buy initiative on this one. Sure would make it really irresistible to a lot of PS3 and Vita owners!

HELLO! I can't WAIT for this! As long as they keep up the Oddworld, all I see is FOLLOW ME on their logo!

Also: Needs more gore on the slig de-possession. Half the fun was watching their chunky bits flopping up against the screen :-x)

If you played the original, you know why they called it New n Tasty, right?

It is actually not releasing this fall but next fall, 2013. As this video is a pre aplha with just place holder objects.

You should watch the whole explanation with Lorne & co at eurogamer expo.

Yes, I know. But I want new players to figure out the connection for themselves.

Looks like it will be pretty incredible. Like Ultima said, I'm impressed by the atmosphere and really appreciate how untouched that aspect seems. I have the PS1 version on my PS3 and Vita and will probably be picking this one up with the direction it looks to be taking.

Must have been a copyright naming issue with putting it on xbox.

Never gave the series a chance back in the day as it wasn't my cup of tea. I gave it a rent but could not get into it. I did respect its originality though.

Looking forward to playing this remake.

Here's a really good read on Lorne Lanning….

Oddworld: Spending $30m on games, not Ferraris and private jets

By Matt Martin

After telling Electronic Arts "f**k you", Lorne Lanning is back building games as his own micro-publisher
Oddworld Inhabitants

What did Lorne Lanning say to Electronic Arts when it wanted to acquire his studio, Oddworld Inhabitants?

"Fuck you very much."

And with that, he left the games business.

Now Lorne Lanning is finally doing what he intended all along – to make games for the fans. That hasn't been easy in a past where a much-loved franchise was hampered by the demands of the games business. Lanning is still wound up about that, still wound up by the terrible business practices that never worked in favour of the developer. The business practices that squeezed the most amount of work out of a developer for the least amount of rewards. Less than a console generation ago publishers were driving the sports cars while developers were eating out of bean tins.

That's why I always look questionably at publishers.
