Analysts “Increasingly Concerned” GTAV Won’t Hit By March

Take-Two says Grand Theft Auto V is "making substantial progress," but some analysts are thinking gamers will have to wait longer than anticipated.

Many expect the blockbuster title to land before March 31, 2012, primarily because the publisher has such lofty expectations for the fiscal year. However, Robert W. Baird analyst Colin Sebastian told GameSpot that his firm is becoming "increasingly concerned" that GTAV won't make it before April. Said Sebastian:

"By no means am I convinced that it will miss March, but there are a couple of factors to consider. One, we haven’t heard anything definitive from the company on release timing. Second, retailers typically would want 4-6 months lead time to prepare for a launch as large as GTA, and from [what] I understand they haven’t heard anything. Third, Rockstar rightly prioritizes game quality over release date, and this dynamic could shift timing."

Sebastian did add that he thinks GTAV will ship 12-14 million units in its first three months of availability, which wouldn't be surprising. But when will it finally arrive? Let's have that date!

Not longer than I anticipated. I've got a sixth sense for this kind of stuff, they ought to pay me as an analyst.

Is GTA V the only game analysts care about…

That's what I was wondering. So what if it's late? It will get here. Some gamers need to learn patience.

I'd rather see developers delaying a game's release just so they could further polish the game and come up with the game that they really want to create. Everyone knows how massive the GTA games are so I have no problem waiting a little more for it. Besides, don't we already have a ton of AAA games coming out in Q1 2013?

I'd say sometime between May and September. GTA V doesn't need the long run up of hype that some other games do, but six months of hype is the norm. R* hasn't kicked it up yet, and I won't look into any more serious idea of a release date until they do.

Also, Q1 is already stupid. It doesn't need GTA V.

not to mention bioshock infinite releases in feb, and it would be stupid to release 2 such big games so close to each other.
may at the earliest id be really shocked if we saw it any earlier.
as for the 12-14M units within 3 months is a bit ambitious.
it will sell like hotcakes for sure, but not THAT well!
totally depends on when it releases, on what it releases, and what else is around it.
oh and how good it is!
please, please, oh please dont let it be like GTAIV!
i dont think i can survive another disappointment like that…….

Are analysts gamers too or what? Why would they be concern? Did they "analyzed" it to be released by March, and they don't want to be wrong?

who cares about what analysts are saying, the devs are "making substantial progress" and that's what matters. I hate when people don't have patience.

Grand Theft Auto IV came out in April
Grand Theft Auto 3, San Andreas and Vice in October

It hasn't hit a March date yet so doubt it will make it for the end of the quarter
