It's long past time to let the ladies lace up the skates.
EA has announced that the upcoming NHL 13 will play host to the first playable female characters in franchise history.
Included in the game will be former USA defensive player Angela Ruggiero and Team Canada forward Hayley Wickenheiser; they'll be part of the "Legends" group in the new hockey simulator, which is slated to drop next month. This is another step in the right direction, as NHL 12 let users create custom female characters, but no real-world players were featured. If you're wondering, the other Legends will be the incomparable Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Doug Gilmour, Dominik Hasek, and Jari Kurri.
NHL 13 will be on store shelves for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in North America on September 11, while European gamers will get it a couple days later. A demo is coming, too.

That's great, I'm always up for equality across the board. Now, about that lingerie football league…
Demo was released a week ago.
that's kool. cassie campbell should definitely be there to next time.
Wickenheiser is definitely a legend, good pick.
Demo was good, but not much different than NHL12. I'll be waiting to see if there's a lockout before I get the game. And If there is a lockout I'll go with Madden13.
Though you were able to create a female character last year, this is a terrific addition! My niece's are gonna love this.
