Darksiders II Producer: “We Got To Create Our Dream Game”

Darksiders II hits store shelves next week, and the developers are proud of their product.

In a PSXE interview that will be published this weekend, the game's Associate Producer, Jay Fitzloff, answered various questions pertaining to the highly anticipated sequel.

When we remarked that so many different gameplay elements and mechanics are involved in the ambitious game, we wanted to know if this was difficult to create. After all, blending so many different styles and systems together is a challenge. And while Fitzloff agreed that it was indeed tough, he added that the team didn't mind the work because in the end, they were creating exactly what they wanted to create.

"When people ask us why there aren’t more games like Darksiders, we half-jokingly reply, 'Because they’re really hard to create.' We don’t mind all the hard work, though. We’re getting to create our dream game, and are excessively happy and proud with how it turned out. Personally, for the first time ever in my career, I’m planning on playing the retail copy on my home system on release day. Normally when you work on a project for two years, you’re so familiar with it that your copy of the game remains in the shrink wrap for all eternity. Not so with Darksiders II."

Look for the full interview this weekend and our review when the embargo lifts next week. I've dropped a few hints about my experience with DSII on our Twitter page but I won't go any further than that… By the way, isn't it awesome to hear a designer who is utterly pleased with the final result and really can't get enough of it?

Cool. I look forward to the interview and review. It's too bad I can't give an enthralling game right now the time it deserves. I've intentionally held off on ME3 because I couldn't immerse and dedicate the time as I want to take in the whole experience…. VF5 FS and the Olympics just isn't helping matters either. We just got finished watching an amazing women's volleyball match between the US and China. I'm talking Rocky calibur intensity.

What characters do you main in VF5? I use Jacky Bryant and Goh right now. I main Jacky and just started using Goh, because I always wanted to learn how to use him because he is one of the characters where you kind of have to know his moves and can't just pick him up and play as a beginner.

Akira is my main guy. Right now Im Hunter class with him. I have beginner skills with a few others, like Jacky and Jean.

I want to be good with Jean, but I can't figure out what his "trick" is. I did use his parry a lot and found that helped but he just seems so weak and slow compared to Jacky. Not that he is I'm sure he is awesome if you play him right.

I suck with akira too. I find him to slow, and don't know how to make him hit hard. I know he is good though just not much type I suppose.

Jacky is the Jeet Kun Do fighter (Bruce Lee) so he's more free flowing, fast and evasive. He's easier to pick up and play, and he was my choice VF character prior to owning an arcade stick on PS3. Akira is all about hard hitting short burst power and precision timing. Akira has often been looked at as the epitome of player discipline and skill. He's great at punishing opponents who block too much and has some great low frame interrupts to help keep the pressure on. I think he could use some more half circle attacks, and attacks that do better against evasive players.

Jean is someone I couldn't really get a good feel for either. He's got some strong mix-ups and does well to pressure blockers. I've only fought a handful of really skilled Jean players.

I'm sure the passion these guys have is going to seep through the finished product. I look forward to immersing myself in this world.

This is really good to hear.

I hope DS2 is the commercial success that these guys deserve. They really have put together a mammoth title.

It fills me with hope to see a developer filled with so much passion for his product.

I predict an 8ish from Ben.
