At last check, the game was still in development, even if the first entry (this was supposed to be a trilogy) was a long ways off.
But unfortunately, THQ announced during an investor call that they've canceled Guillermo del Toro's horror game, Insane , and have given him back all the rights to the anticipated project.
Insane was initially announced back in 2010 and del Toro had apparently teamed up with Saints Row developer Volition. But things had been awfully quiet on the update front since that announcement, so maybe it's no big shock to see the project die off. THQ was also forced to cancel another promising game earlier this year, Tomonobu Itagaki's Devil's Third .
THQ has had to make some tough decisions in order to right the ship. Maybe this month's Darksiders II can go a long way towards achieving that feat… Still, we're disappointed that we won't get to see del Toro's vision. Perhaps another publisher wants to sign on for the long haul.
Related Game(s): Insane
Man, poor Del Toro, all his projects get cancelled lately. Then again so do THQs.
I'm a huge fan of Guillermo Del Toro. Pan's Labyrinth is one of favorite movies of all time. I hope Del Toro can team up with another publisher and deliver the game.
He lost out hugely when he decided to quit on the Hobbit… he wasn't prepared to wait it out.
If I were him I would have waited it out for as long as possible… living in NZ is no shame of course, its a gorgeous beautiful country… who wouldn't
And now the insane has happened, his Insane game has been wiped put as well.
Great film maker, shame about the timing!

Real cut. Del Toro knows his way around horror. Was really awaiting for a future announcement, but oh well, let's hope someone else will help him bring this project to life.
Now is your chance Sony.
Jeez THQ keeps dropping the good ones.
More like the risky one if you ask me , so in their financial state ,it was a good decision .
At this rate, THQ is going to cut down on manpower.
I doubt that even Darksiders II can help them.
Though I suppose Homefront 2 may cut down the loss but one game won't change anything unless it's CoD.
$ony TOTALLY NEEDS to dive on this!
one game that would suit them really well!
not exactly surprising this got canned.
THQ are in financial dire, and this would not be ready for another few years so it is a big, big investment!
THQ are not in the position to be making these types of investments……..
Just found this……
THQ internal studios working on four unannounced projects
Jason Rubin claims development on several new games started in the last 60 days
Jason Rubin, the company's recently installed president, has used the first two months of his tenure to survey its slate of products, resulting in the Saints Row DLC, Enter The Dominatrix, being expanded into a full sequel, and inSane, Guillermo del Toro's incipient project, being cancelled.
"I've been focusing primarily on upcoming projects including Darksiders 2, South Park: The Stick of Truth, Metro: Last Light and Homefront 2, as well as the titles being developed by Turtle Rock Studios, Collision, Crytek and Patrice Désilets.
"Beyond our announced titles, in the last 60 days, all four of our internal studios began working on new titles that represent the type of product we believe will make THQ successful in the future."
