The fighting genre has enjoyed quite the resurgence this generation, but that doesn't mean the PSXE readership is totally on board.
Two of the generation's biggest fighting titles, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Dead or Alive 5 , launch in September, and according to our latest poll, the majority have no intention of purchasing either.
If it means anything, far more people voted for TTT2 in comparison to DoA5, but most just aren't interested in these games. Not sure what that says about the aforementioned resurgence, but we all know fighting games are no longer the blockbuster, chart-ruling titles they used to be. No, shooters and general action games have come up in the world since then. This week, we'll take a break from gaming and ask if you're watching the Olympics.
What say you? Lochte seems to have surpassed Phelps, world all-around gymnastics champ Jordyn Wieber misses her chance, we've got a crack skeet shooter who apparently never misses, the US basketball teams had best win gold (or else), and the US finally medaled in women's synchronized diving. And yeah, all the track-and-field yet to come.
Never really got into fighting games until Mortal Kombat (ps3). Never even played those two games.
It's not the same without an arcade system and people standing around watching you play.
I would agree though I had a lot of fun times playing with 5 to 10 of my friends taking turns beating on each other in MvC2 and Rival Schools during my high school days.

I agree. Fighting games need multiplayer and, for me at least, online just doesn't cut it. Although I did have some fun times on Soul Calibur 2 & 3 with one of my old roommates, nothing comes close to the experience of Street Fighter 2 or Mortal Kombat at the arcade.
Admittedly, I've never had much use for either Tekken or DoA, but without that arcade vibe, even the franchises I enjoy seem a bit lessened
Yup watching Olympics all day everyday even if NBC is airing them delayed.
I still enjoy fighting games though not as much as I used to. No one to play with anymore. Playing online is too hit or miss. Seems half the time I try and play online lag seems to ruin it. And playing online is just not as enjoyable as taking turns with a room full of friends.
As for the Olympics? Lol, no chance. Booooooooring.

I cant play fighting games because i suck at them bad, get at me bro.
You don't like much, do ya Jawk? :p
I like IPA's and Korean BBQ. 🙂
You don't like the Olympics? You find them boring?
Wow…
I find 'em boring as well.
Not just boring, mind numbingly boring. And something just seems completely wrong with allowing places like North Korea(and others like them)to compete. There's no moral courage in the Olympic committee. But hey, that's just my opinion.
If politics were involved, the only ones participating in the Olympics would be NATO, a few banana republics, and the sheikhdoms that funded it. That would be really boring.
If I happen to be around a TV when track and field is on, I'll pay attention. But considering my lack of service and general ignorance of when things will air, I doubt I'll be in that situation. Other than that, I don't have a whole lot of interest in many of the other sports.
dunno why but ive never really been able to get into any fighting games except MK.
everything else has really bored me!
maybe besides tekken, but even that i never got caught to i would play it for a hour if that than get bored with it, where MK i could play for weeks on end!
im still waiting for someone to do a 3D fighting game like what we saw with mortal kombat shaolin monks!
i wish netherelm would go back to the essence of deception, the tri weapon styles, the 100+ combos, and implement that gameplay into a MK shaolin monks styled game!
now that would be THE fighting game to end all fighting games!
as for the olymipcs zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
ive never been a big fan of it.
thats probably because thats pretty much all national TV shows 24/7!
so by the time the olympics come around you have already had enough sports to last you 57 decades!
only thing i get up at 4am in the morning for is the world cup!
I watch the Olympics every two years. And I watch it online live so I don't have to worry about the news spoiling the results, and not having to worry about tape delays.
As for fighting games, I don't really care about them any more like I did a decade or so ago. I'll still play one from time to time, but I don't buy them anymore.
It's not that I am not interested in it, I honestly do. I always had a tekken game with me on every PS device I ever owned and DoA on the Xbox was extremely tantalizing. It's just that i have a lot of fighting games already. Standard and "complete" editions some on Vita and PS3. I just cant commit any more cash in fighting games
I like Dead or Alive, but I am not excited for it. As for Tekken, well I have stated my opinion of the recent direction of the series far too often already… Short answer: No.
I bought MK , MVC3 , tekken 6 , soul calibur 5 and SF vs Tekken this generation .More then i did EVER .
So i had my fill this gen and with borderland 2 in September those 2 games had even less chance .
I just have no interest in TTT2..never been a fan of the tag mechanic as the primary feature of a fighting game..I could never get in to DOA at all..I mean I got my fighting fixes with MK and SF x Tekken…
Definitely watching the Olympics though..seems like now that I've gotten older all the sports catch my eye besides track & field and basketball..Even caught myself watching the Cycling event Saturday morning..
Soul Calibur 5 all but extinguished my interest in the genre. But I will be giving DoA5 a look. I'm not giving the Olympics a second look however, I just can't get excited about it.
Fighting games are my middle name. 'nuff said
the wife and I will be watching the Olympics as much as we can everyday. We really like it.
I actually unearthed our TV antenna from a storage area the other day so we could watch it. lol
It's basically the only tv we watch every 2 years, well, broadcast or cable anyway.
I have never watched the Olympics. I never will either unless my kids are in it. I just find it very boring. I'm not much of a sports guy either.
I like the Olympics, some of the sports I find boring to watch then the others but that's just me.
Everyone at work is watching it. Rather than that I won't care until they add mma to the roster.
You all fail hard imo.
Fighting games ftw. 😉
& i mean that in the most self-bigoted way imaginable.
i find the Olympics come in handy when i'm all out of nyquil.
I'd rather be forced to read a Dan Brown novel or something written by Stephanie Meyer than watch the Olympics.
As for TTT2, yep. Pre-ordered and everything. My love for fighting games hasn't stopped since I used to get destroyed by my brother in karate Champ on the Commodore 64.
