Konami Says Project Ogre/MGS5 Tie-In Rumors Are False

Over the weekend, gamers apparently got the benefit of one pretty massive leak; it involved Hideo Kojima's ultra-secret new "Project Ogre" and Metal Gear Solid 5 .

Essentially, it was a rumor that tied the two titles together, thereby pseudo-confirming MGS5. The information evidently came from a behind-closed-doors presentation at Comic-Con that showed off the Fox Engine. But apparently, after stringing everyone along for a little while, Konami is finally saying it's all bunk.

The publisher's UK Twitter account first tossed up Tweets like, "Fake or real, we love a bit of speculation!" But then came the unfortunate clarification, which irritated some people:

"Seriously, just in case the ‪#pinch‬ ‪#salt‬ hashtags weren't enough – the chap who claims to have set up the fake rumours has been in touch."

Okay, so they're saying it's fake…but that hasn't stopped the speculation. There's no doubt that Kojima was at Comic-Con, and there's no doubt that he was being secretive about something over there. We know next to nothing about "Project Ogre" or MGS5 (the latter hasn't even been officially confirmed yet), but to learn that the two projects are one in the same might not be too surprising.

And by the way, here's a Tweet from Epic boss Cliff Bleszinski:

"Just got pulled into a back room at Comic Con by @HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN and showed some crazy new secret stuff. Wow."

We're getting a little antsy over here, Kojima…

Have MGS5 set it between MGS3 and MG1 and make Peace Walker & Portable Ops non-canon and the series will be fixed. I really want them to focus on 'The Terrible Children' project and the conflict between… the man with the same code name as Null and Big Boss. Show outer Heaven being built properly.

Be fixed? Metal Gear isn't Mass Effect…

The problem I had with the PSP games is that they took a massive diversion to tell their own stories rather than progress the saga as a whole. apparent from the ending of each game there is nothing significant. Besides, after 2 games they still didn't fill the gap between MGS3 – MG1.

Don't get me started on the Mass Effect fiasco…

Portable Ops can never be non-canon, because the events of that game are shown in MGS4 when Eva tells Snake about the history of Big Boss & Zero.

No it wasn't though, that's what should have happened but it was nowhere to be seen. Obviously they wanted to keep it all hush hush for the reveal in MGS4. But, it would have been nice to see that conflict between Zero & BB, which is why I am hoping this MGS5 will deliver it.

The only hint at The Terrible Children project in PO is through that god awful scene with Ursula, who was to much of an anime character to be suited within the MG universe. BB is asked about his children in PW and he denies them, that is all that is mentioned about it. It should be one of the biggest plot points of the series, if they're doing all these prequels it has to be shown.

Yeah it is, replay act 3. When Eva is explaining the history of Big Boss, Zero, and the patriots. Scenes from portable ops are clearly shown. It can't be made non-canon if the events are referenced (or in this case, shown) in a canon game.

I do somewhat agree with you about PW though, not because enough wasn't shown, but because what was shown doesn't fit with the rest of the series.

The Peace walker machine itself takes away from the TX 55 in MG1 being the ultimate weapon, the TX 55 is vastly inferior.

In MGS4, Eva said Big Boss returned to the U.S to take command of Fox hound, but in PW, Zero knew of mother base. Why would he allow Big Boss to return?

Avid fan of Metal Gear so I would absolutely welcome another game regardless of timeline or storyline…although I would love to play as Solid Snake one more time…maybe a game set between previous titles in series? Here is hoping!

It would be cool if MGS5 were to be divided into three chapters. Chapter 1 could have you play as Big Boss, and establish how the Outer heaven base in africa came to be (as well as explain what happend after mother base).

Chapter 2 could be the events of Metal Gear 1 remade (the MSX game), letting the player control a much younger Solid Snake.

And Chapter 3 would be Metal Gear 2 remade (again, the MSX game).

As it stands now, most of the events of Metal Gear 1 & 2 have been retconned by MGS1. Things like zanzibar land being the worlds only nuclear power, when MGS1 states that the U.S and russia have 20.000 nukes. And Big Boss never told Snake he was his father in MG2, but MGS1 states that he did.

In short, MG1 & 2 need remaking

Fully agree with everything you said, if they kept the remake as secret as they did with Raiden that would just be an epic surprise.

Kojima already unofficially confirmed MGS5 so that wasn't necessary, I really want to know what the hell Ogre is but I guess it's better if a game isn't revealed too early or you get an Agent or FFVersus situation on your hands. It will probably be PS4 gen at this rate though.

i really hope these are fake, we really need to see something new from the guy!
hes been working on MGS for so freaking long now, even he says he wants to work on something new so enough is enough!
plus he constantly keeps saying he wants to kill off snake, so he should be kept as far away from MGS as possible!
put out a restraining order or something…………
