Ben-DutkaThe latest iteration of the PlayStation 3 hardware may be just around the corner.
It seems Tecnoblog has leaked some pics of the new PS3 model thanks to a Sony filing with Brazilian telecommunications regulator Anatel.
Rather than the smooth surface found on past PS3 versions, this one has ridges and an uneven top panel, with no visible slot for discs. Basically, this means we could be looking at a setup similar to the original PlayStation, which had the flip-top lid, or maybe it's a slide-out of some kind. In terms of size, it does appear a little smaller but we don't have exact weight and dimensions. The other interesting part is that Sony sought approval for three different hard-drive sizes: 16GB, 250GB and 500GB. What the heck are you gonna do with 16GB? Should be pretty cheap, right?
Anyway, it's probably only a matter of time before Sony makes the new PS3 model official. And it could be the last PS3 version we see before the PS4 hits store shelves…

Well you could play any disc based game you want, you'd just have to delete the install everytime you want to change games which would be annoying.
I think the rigdes are there because the top right of the unit appears to slide over to the left. I've seen a screenshot that shows the front where the slot loading drive normally would be. I don't see a slot loading drive. So I'd say it's either some sort of sliding cover, or possibly a toilet lid cover like PSX and PS2 slim

I hope so, I have never been a fan of them disc trays that the PS2 & 360 have, they have grooves which can put spiral scratches on your discs. Much prefer the 'Toilet lid' (…) from the PS1, 2 slim & The Dreamcast.
Also, if this release is to be notable a PS3 with PS2 compatibility.

I really, REALLY hope that it looks better than those pictures make it look. The toilet bowl top would be cheaper, and I did see a sentence at the end of the article that looked like it was comparing the 16gb model to the 4gb "budget version" of Xbox 360.
It seems legit, and if it is I hope it can help get PS3s into more peoples hands.
My Ruffles may have ridges, but I sure hope my PS4 doesn't!!!!!!

Well, time to purchase a Slim before this model replaces them at the local Best Buy.
My original phat PS3 just got the YLOD for the second time, so I'm up for a new console. Although I didn't entirely like the design of the Slim either, this new one makes the original slim look sexy.

I honestly don't care what my PS3 looks like as long as it performs like the rest of them. As for the 16gig, if it cuts the cost quite a bit I'd have no problem buying it and simply swapping out the small HD for a 1TB.

Luckily my sexy Slim is still going strong, and will do so until the PS4 takes over.

I've seen a different picture of a slimmer ps3 and it didn't look like the one above. The one above looks like they worked really hard to make it ugly.
It's so… Unstable looking. The ribbed top doesn't look bad but it definitely doesn't blend in with the surrounding trim. What's with the super narrow base?! I'd have to say it's an Aztec rendition of a UFO that crashed into something. Or any given negative comment above mine. Or… Worse.

People hating on the new look should wait for legit official photos from Sony and not the perspective warped phone snapshots. Lighting and scale is just off right now.
I think once people see how small and light it is they'll think a little less poop-faced about it
Will never understand the no hard drive craze. It's about the cheapest part of a console or computer. Only way I'm getting one is if it's better than one before in some way.
I am sorry, but it really does not look very nice from that photo. As Temjin says though, best wait for better and final photographs before judging to quick.
My FAT PS3 black beauty has just gotten a bit more valuable after the release of this newer PS3!

16gig budget system for $99??? I would say good pricings for these would be $149 for the 250gig and $199 for the 500gig systems. (Pricing to be reasonable, not something rediculous like $149 for 500gigs…)
As for looks… eh, I'll stick w/ my good ol phat 60 until it gives up the ghost, which shouldn't be for a long long time considering how I treat my systems, my old ORIGINAL Playstation still runs beautifully.
How sad they wasted time and money on this.

I would figure the 16gb ps3 would cost $199 or $150. $150 or $149.99 would be perfectly acceptable for the least expensive ps3. I would buy it if or when my current ps3 decides not to work and cannot be fixed. All I would have to do is buy the 16gb version and swap out the hard drive from my ps3 to the new ps3.
I hope that's fake because it is downright FUGLY!
