Kaz Hirai No Longer The Sony Computer Entertainment Chairman

Kaz Hirai has long since been associated with the PlayStation brand. And he'll still be around, just not in the same capacity.

During an executive appointments briefing, it was announced that the Sony Computer Entertainment chairman and representative director will be stepping down. He'll now be a part-time member of the board.

Taking Hirai's place as representative director and president and group CEO of the division will be Andrew House. Hirai will still be president and CEO of Sony Corporation, though, so it's not like he's relinquishing all boss duties. One of our favorite executives has been with SCE since 1995, and he has helped the PlayStation brand become one of the most respected brands in the video game industry. He had no small part in the success of the PlayStation and PS2, so we should probably thank him for that.

All this corporate shuffling can be a little confusing, though. Such fancy titles…sometimes it's hard to know what the day-to-day duties of this guys really are. I'm guessing they have very busy days, at the very least.

He's heading the parent company now, still being Chairman of a subsidiary would be redundant.

Kaz good. Don't know much about House. Does he run a shadowy casino in New Vegas?

Wow, Kaz just took over as CEO in April. I know many board members wanted Howard Stringer's head after the PSN debacle and got it too. Same thing happened to Ken Kutuargi after the PS3 debacle. But I know of nothing Kaz did except take over at Sony after a record breaking 6.4 billion dollar loss. He probably just resigned as CEO but what's strange is he just took a big pay cut on his own and had been laying out his vision to get Sony profitable. Walks away before even having any amount of time to do so. Strange indeed.

Not surprised – suspect he'd have his hands full with heading all of Sony!

I think is the reason he barely appears in E3 this year.

Have to appreciate what Kaz is dealing with every day. Multi-year losses at the parent company, needs to do a lot more re-shuffling, firing and rationalisation…

oh god!
please not house, anyone but house!
hell even stringer would be better than that incompetent moron!
so sad to see kaz step down, after father ken he has been THE reason $ony has survived!
no one has had as big effect as what father ken and kaz have!
apparently hes stepping down because hes focussing his efforts on rebooting the music, film, TV and phone decisions he does not have enough time to do all that and stay as chairman.
sad, as the saying goes he was the best thing to happen to this industry, and indeed the company since sliced bread!

we will miss you MR RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDGE RACER!
sorry kaz, but no we will NEVER let you live that day down!
