We'll get the commercial and an actual picture up here in a moment (scratch that; just got the commercial up) but for now, the news:
In short, it's called "Wonderbook," what Sony is calling the "reinvention of the storybook." Essentially, this new form of interactive entertainment utilizes augmented reality, the PlayStation Eye, and the PlayStation Move that will allow the plots and characters of stories to come to life in a way never seen before.
To start is a fresh story penned by "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling, which is now on display at Sony's E3 press conference. A player will be able to learn how to cast spells and follow along with Rowling's new Potter story, and that alone should be enough to intrigue just about anyone who's a fan of the franchise…and anyone who's interested in seeing something quite new. This is about as close as we're going to get to virtual reality right now, wouldn't you say?
O….M…..G!
I thought they would never stop with this demonstration. Seriously, Sony spent WAY too much time showing off this game.
Not to quibble, but it's not a "game." At least, I don't see AR books as games. 🙂
Whatever it was it really bored me. I'm pissed at SE for not even showing off Versus, at Rockstar for not showing Agent (it's dead I'm sure), and at Sony for not showing any of The Last Guardian.
Oh come on. You had to know none of that was going to happen.
But why….? 🙁
I can't believe it's 2012 and the two games I wanted the most when I bought a PS3 have yet to release.
Well, I mean, based on everything we knew going into the show, it was extremely unlikely that any of the three games you mentioned would show up.
Sadly, we must remain realistic in our expectations…or be doomed to be forever disappointed. 😉

Some of us want giant surprises at these things like POW The Last Guardian gameplay with 2012 release date. That would make people go nuts. Nowadays we pretty much know what's going to happen at E3 long beforehand.
Having J.K. Rowling's name on it should get some peoples' attention. Some awkward moments in that presentation but it still looked rather solid. Maybe not for me, but it's good to have for those that enjoy such stuff.
Sony's looking to put the Wii U to its death very early.
I'll just keep to visual novels, thank you.
A lot of people are hating on how long and boring the presentation was but it was interesting.
It was? You want to sit on the floor with a book and wave a wand around?
It would be something I would by my kid not for myself.
I understand it would be fun for a child. When I'm watching E3 I want to see AAA titles geared toward us gamers, not some gimmick meant for kids. I feel Sony had plenty of other things to fill up the time they spent on this book thing.
Yeah, LV, I think this is primarily for kids.
@LV Yeah I wished they had used their time with something else too. I would call this Sonys off year.
I wouldn't really go as far as to say it was their off year. Their presentation was far better than MS's IMO. But I will admit Halo4 looked awesome. MS spent all their time on nongame related things and pushing exclusive DLC.
MS = Exclusive/timed DLC
Sony = Exclusive GAMES
Kinect=gimmick for kids
…really stupid kids who don't want to play games that *work*.
When i saw this bit i knew Sony had nothing. That was a presentation for PBS or Sesame street,oh Sony…even showing starhawk was too difficult?
If I had kids, I'd probably get this. It's a pretty cool concept, but the execution looked to be disappointing. Kids would love it though.
Cool concept, but damn, once I've got some extra money, I'll then have to find a whole new spot to make room for all this upcoming AR books too.
Hmmm, just gotta find a way to get our landlord to extend my living room outward by 20 feet ……without the other 15 unit's tenants getting upset…..and for free too!
I felt awkward when the chick couldn't open the door.
I wouldn't want anything to do with anything Harry Potter nor would I want it near my children. Too gay.
You sad, sad human being. I assume the worldwide fame and critical acclaim hasn't sold you?
If I had a son that grew up to be a Harry Potter fan I would find a religion that condoned sacrificing and send him straight to hell.
Comments are really getting IGN'ny these days
oh c'mon we all get excited around E3 time 🙂 at least it's all in fun here and not pure nerd rage.
karneli lll = Buzz Killington
This was a horrible part of a otherwise great conference. This entire segment should have been cut and replaced with upcoming Vita games.
I know this is geared towards small kids and soccer moms, but small kids and soccer moms do not watch Live E3 Streams.
This should have been relegated to live demoing in there both, not a 15 minute on stage boring demonstration that should have been used to show off games people that are watching the stream actually want to see.
don't blame sony for not showing what some of you wanted to see.
don't like the wonder book? don't buy it, go play something else.
At least I can see I wasn't the only one that was bored out of my mind while this was being showed. I wish they would have slotted Dust 514 in for that time.
Wow…at least they didn't make the mistake of starting or ending their conference with this. Yeah it is a great little gimmick for kids but that is not something I would have showcased at E3.
this is EXACTLY why $onys stock is the lowest in the companies history!
the company goes to E3 and spends the majority of its time on a crappy kids game!
seriously, is this playstation or nintendo?
seriously, i was starting to see reggies face on trettons body for a second there!
its confirmed, $ony has become nintendo and tomorrow the wiiU will not be getting mario, zelda, metroid.
but will be getting mad world 2, a new house of the dead game, man hunt 3, the suffering 3, left 4 dead 3 and GTAV all exclusively!
gotta love how tretton calls E3 the super bowl of the century than shows this crap!
yea, sorry dude but the super bowl would not be seen dead advertising this sh*t!
its like Ferrari turn up to the Geneva motor show not to unveil the worlds fastest car, but to unveil their new perfume!
come on dude this is E3, crappy kids games do not belong at E3!
E3 is a kid free zone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
soon they will be ditching the press and turning their press conference into a babys ball pen!

It shows Sony cares about our future generation. Who knows, maybe these AR books will be used in elementary schools one day. Finding ways to make education fun for children is always good.
This was geared towards kids, but what kid wants to do that? I wouldn't be interested in it. Make more games for move please and not this stuff!
LV's on fire! Hahaha
This sounds cool but not really interested for my kids, my son said he wants to play the battle all star game.
