Take-Two Posts Losses, But Max Payne 3 Ships 3 Million

Less than 24 hours after Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia predicted Max Payne 3 would sell 4 million worldwide , the first numbers arrived.

During publisher Take-Two Interactive's latest financial report , it was revealed that the new brutal shooter had shipped 3 million already. Unfortunately, the upcoming FPS, XCOM , was hit with another delay, as it won't drop until the company's next fiscal year (between April 1, 2013 and March 31, 2014). Why? Not sure.

In addition, we learn that Borderlands has hit 6 million units shipped, while Bioshock is closing in on 10 million (9.5 million currently). Take-Two net revenue came in at $825.8 million for the period ending March 31, 2012, which is down 27% from the $1.13 billion posted for the year prior. Unsurprisingly, the company attributed this drop to a lack of big releases; last fiscal year saw the launch of the mega blockbuster Red Dead Redemption , for example.

For fiscal 2012, Take-Two cited L.A. Noire , NBA 2K12 , Duke Nukem Forever , Red Dead Redemption , and various Grand Theft Auto titles as the biggest contributors. Digital content hit $106.6 million, about 13% of the total revenue for the period, which is up 4%. As you might expect, Max Payne 3 , Grand Theft Auto V , and Bioshock Infinite could really help Take-Two this fiscal year… Probably a safe bet.
