Square Enix Returns To Profit Thanks To Deus Ex, FFXIII-2

Despite being forced to push Tomb Raider into next year , Square Enix did have some good news today.

According to the publisher's fiscal financial results , the company's Digital Entertainment branch enjoyed a net sales surge of 11.9% (up to 71.9 billion yen/$897.5 million) and a leap of 11.7% in operating income (up to 12.6 billion yen/$157.3 million).

And although they didn't provide us with actual sales figures, Square Enix cited Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution as helping their bottom line. Deus Ex shipped 2 million units at last tally and FFXIII-2 was February's second best-selling title in North America for February (only behind Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 ). Full-year net sales came in at 127.9 billion yen ($1.6 billion), which is up 2.1% in the year-over-year comparison, and profits registered at 6.1 billion yen ($76.1 million), which is way up from the 12 billion yen ($150 million) loss suffered last year.

Is the landing strip cleared for Final Fantasy XIII-3 …?

Uh oh, now they have more money to sink into more crappy products. See: the Final Fantasy rhythm game.

FF can only sell on name alone for so long.

Well I know there's lots of hate on the new FFs but although FFXIII was quite painful to finish because of the linearity, I think FFXIII2 was pretty nice. I hope it continues to do well.

FF-Versus-XIII is coming we just have to be patient. I just read an article in Game Informer that they are making something "new" that's why it's taking so long. My guess is that they are refining the control scheme and battle system so that it is different than XIII. He said he couldn't talk about it but we have to be patient.

It was always going to be an on-map action rpg, are you sure they didn't mean they were working on a whole new game instead?

Yes, the interviewer asked him about FFVSXIII and he immediately said please wait for an official comment and that he really appreciates all the fans for their patience. He made it sounds like they are making something new in the way of gameplay and not an actual different game. It was in the Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop article. It's the issue with Elder Scrolls MMO on the cover.

if they were to remake kingdom hearts HD to the PS3 and make KH3. bring Final Fantasy VS 13 and remake FF7 & Final Fantasy 6 they would have PROFIT LONG TIME AGO… the things they do sometimes =(

this is really ridiculous, I hated the direction where SE is going, but I bought the FF13, and I bought the FF13-2, and platinumed it, even so, I still do not love the game too much, it was fun, but it was not what I love to see in a JRPG.

oddly, I started playing Magna Carta 2 on 360 a few days back and I found even that game is much more JRPGish and more classic and fantasy than the FF13 entire world. Also, I have beaten the Last Story two weeks ago, despite the pixelated graphics comparing to the FF13-2, I enjoyed the game 10 times more while playing it — the classic JRPG feel, the music, the story, the fantasy, everything is exactly what I want, if only it is made on PS3…

my point is — other companies are still able to deliver something classic in JRPG genre, but SE continues failing to deliver a true classic JRPG this gen, and this unreasonable fact alone is very very depressing to me.

May as well say it. If their making enough money, REMAKE FINAL FANTASY 7. Do they even know how much money I'd spend on that game? I'd sell my kids (if I had any) just to play that game.

Would donating to a bank count as selling your kids?

People want FFvsXIII so give it to them. There is more money there. Also Final Fantasy VII isnt even close to being my favorite Final Fantasy yet I know if they remade it, it would sell like crazy.

(REMAKE VI ITS THE BEST)

Cube?? or was it triangle or hexagon?….something about someepic game series thats morphed into a fallen from grace game series that is now a total yawner of a game series.

Attempting to give a damn in five, four, three, two….error, error! damn not given.

Goes back to D. 514.
