Ben-DutkaStarhawk is here and if you're a multiplayer fan, you've got to give it a shot.
We're disappointed with the single-player campaign but this doesn't change the fact that the online action is unique, gripping, entertaining, and addictive.
Supporting up to 32 players for online multiplayer and a bevy of structures, vehicles and upgrades, the Warhawk successor strives to set itself apart. There are shooters out there, of course, but Starhawk 's singular blend of third-person action and real-time strategy makes it feel like a…um…cerebral guilty pleasure, if that makes any sense. The launch trailer is below and if you haven't checked it out yet, do so; it could really influence your purchase decision. Good trailers do that.
If you've got some reliable friends that are willing to play on a frequent basis, we say get the party started now.

Warhawk still has a decent following after all this time, and I get the feeling this game will be sticking around for a while as well. I'm loving it so far! The campaign, with all it's faults has even kind of grown on me, but The MP is wicked fun!
You know a game is good when it has longevity amonst the fans.

Buy it and make it sell well then 😛 I purchased it just because its getting free map packs. I had a blast with multiplayer last night. If you have some friends with mics its really awesome.
I want a solid multiplayer game and can't choose between this or Twisted Metal. I think it is safe to say Starhawk has the upper hand, but then again it's hard to say no to Twisted Metal.
This will have more longevity I think. They said they don't plan on DLC for Twisted metal, and for Starhawk all the map packs are going to be free!!!!!
I think you will get more bang for your buck with this game. I just finished playing for an hour and it was awesome. Coop mode is bloody impossible though lol. I guess it depends what your into though. If you like car combat more than third person shooting plus vehicles go for Twisted Metal, if you like variety go for Hawk.
yeah Starhawk will have the staying power, TM multiplayer will be empty within a year.

Okay, here's my question on this one. I have friends that play multiplayer, albeit few, but they most likely won't be getting Starhawk. That being said, what are the chances of getting into good games and having a good time with random players?
I ask this because, I don't have lots of time to dedicate to becoming extremely skilled at this game. In the past I have found that in that situation, gaming with randoms is a less than enjoyable experience. I generally am not to the level of other people and don't know the ins and outs of the game so I tend to not do as well which leads to "QQ noob, you suck" and the like. Whereas, when I play with friends, we just have a good time and don't get overly competitive and it is a much more relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
tldr; is it worth picking up if I won't have friends playing it, and I won't have the time to get really good at it?
My experiences with randoms have been mixed. Do you have a mic? It's a team-based game so communication is key. For example, it can get extremely frustrating when no one is communicating and simply building random things or being the "lone wolf". This is especially annoying in CTF matches when 7 out of 8 people on your team leave the base and leave no one to build walls/turrets/etc to defend your flag.
There is a slight learning curve, but the controls are smooth for vehicles and on foot combat. And because there are so many ways to play (you can be a long range sniper, head in on a tank/razor back with people riding shot gun, fly around in hawks, or simply hang back and build turrets) it's pretty user friendly to people of all skill ranges. There are alot of people online now that really don't know what they're doing. Its great if they're on the other team, but frustrating if they're on yours.
I also expect the community to develop and mature with time, as I'm sure some of the better players will form clans, etc. But overall I've been having a blast.

Yes, I do have a mic. I enjoy the occasional online shooter/team-based game, but again, I don't have the free time to devote to them to get exceptionally skilled at them.
When I have people I know playing, it is not a problem, because like I said, we just don't get that competitive with each other and if we lose the match, not a big deal.
What I have found in the past (with BF3 and similar games) is that in the beginning of the game's life cycle I do all right relatively speaking, but as the game and community "matures" I find myself starting to fall behind (not knowing the levels, not having the unlocks) and I get into games where I am severely disadvantaged and don't have an enjoyable time.
Can I look forward to a few weeks of decently enjoyable gameplay followed up by the remainder of the game's life feeling like the "special" kid on the team?

This game is a lot different than Battlefield/CoD in that those games you CAN be the "lone wolf" (i.e. go do whatever you want with no team-based strategy) and have your team win as a result of you being so rambo-bad-ass. If you're worried about not being able to "master" this game I would be less concerned with this game, than a game like BF3/CoD/Halo. Those games do require alot of devotion and time to get good at, and can be really frustrating if you're constantly getting owned….and the communities in those games tend to get fragmented really quickly (very popular games that have tons of people level up in a small time period). There is a leveling up system in Starhawk, but I'm not sure what "unlocks" you get? I should probably just read the manual.
Do you at all like RTS or even tower-defense titles? Because Starhawk surprisingly offers alot to gamers that do. Often times I find myself (along with 1 or 2 others if properly communicated) staying back at the base hoarding rift energy, and building a fort around the flag. If done for the entire game you could find yourself racking up a lot of kills (via the turrets and beamguns)and not dying a whole lot.
I would say that you should play through the campaign first so you're not overwhelmed with the build and battle system. As you've probably read about the story blows but it is a great "tutorial" for how the game plays. I played the beta, and to be honest after the first time I played it I had no idea what was going on. It wasn't until I tried again my 2nd time and before I knew it 3 hours had gone by.
The only thing I see as some people "mastering" and kicking my ass in is the Hawks. I noticed this in the beta too. I played with a guy who said he dropped over 400 hours into Warhawk and all he did was destroy the opposing team in flight combat. I tended to shy away from using the Hawks in the beta as I wouldn't last longer than a minute or two flying around. The campaign has helped with this though.
I wasn't able to pre order this, but hopefully I'll get it soon
