Ben-DutkaNot long after THQ said they can't "honestly" confirm the June 29 release date for Darksiders II , the official delay is announced.
It's certainly better than a cancellation, though, especially considering the apparent precarious position in which the publisher finds itself. As revealed at the game's official website , the highly anticipated sequel has been pushed back to August 2012.
Developer Vigil Games says they're taking the extra time to "polish and ensure that all aspects of Darksiders II meet the high-quality bar the team is targeting." This falls in line with what THQ boss Danny Bilson said concerning the studio's progress: They're working "really, really hard" but THQ won't ship the game until it's "done." Yes, they do need this one to be successful because titles outside of Saints Row: The Third haven't performed well for the publisher.
So anyway, you'll have to wait only a bit longer…although admittedly, that somewhat vague release window is a tad worrisome.

With all of THQ's money woes lately, and now there's more time added to DS2, I hope for all of your sakes, that by then it hasn't turned into another cancelled project.
Has there ever been a game given an actual release date that was then eventually cancelled? Any game given a release date, even 1 that gets pushed back to a new release date, is far enough along in the process that I believe we will still see it. Don't fret. 😉
Man, this was one of my most anticipated titles this year man. I'm glad they are taking more time though. I'm willing to wait when the developers say they need more time.
Was it Shigeru Miyamoto san who said, "A delayed game may end up good eventually, but a rushed game will always end up bad"?
They can take as long as they need. I'd rather have it up to par with their standards than a rushed game. I doubt they cancel it but you never know..

Or so I would say if my life depended on it. I am sad for all the people who pre-ordered though 🙁 Was kinda looking foward to playing it as soon as possible too.
At least it wasn't pushed back with the holiday rush. I'm still waiting for this title and hope it's all that the devs say it will be.

Darksiders was an awesome start to what appears to be an epic franchise. The first game definately hit the spot for me as far as action/adventure games go.
I sort of want this day 1. But being strapped for cash may complicate things. GameStop actually has a pretty cool pre-order incentive going for this one 😉
I'm glad to read this. They want to maximise the sales potential and I hope they succeed.
They could have gone the other route of getting the game out fast as possible, completely unfinished but with a $60 tag slapped on it in the hopes of making a quick buck.
THQ made the right decision imo.
