Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Landing In September With Huge Roster

Oh man, I still remember the original Tekken Tag Tournament . One of the first titles for the PS2, it was quite the phenomenon.

And finally, nearly 12 years later, the official sequel will land on North American store shelves. Namco Bandai Games America Inc. has announced that Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will arrive for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September.

It'll boast "the largest player roster in Tekken history," with over 50 characters, each with "expanded fight arsenals and move sets to do battle in new stages set in different countries from around the world." The familiar tag-based combat will return, but we'll also get one-on-one matches and a solo fighter vs. tag-team battle option as well.

Pair Play mode lets up to four players each control a character, and in the new Fight Lab mode, we'll be able to customize the moves and appearance of new training character, Combot. "Players that clear the innovative Fight Lab will have mastered the complexities of Tekken and own their own customized Combot."

Said Namco Bandai Games Inc. Project Director Katsuhiro Harada:

"TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT is one of the most beloved entries in the TEKKEN series – not just among fans but also for myself and the entire development team, so crafting the sequel has been a labour of love for everyone here. To truly make this game stand up to the high benchmark set by the original, we have injected some exciting features and modes that will revolutionize the online fighting game community and allow new players to enjoy and master the game – so there will be something for everyone."

The fighting genre has enjoyed a big resurgence this generation, as most major franchises have seen great success. For a while there, I thought these were gonna die out…but that seems impossible now, doesn't it?

September is going to be nuts with both DOA and Tekken landing. I need to think of a way to get the both of them…. GameStop here I come!!
(no, not really 😉

I really wish my ultra lame ISP would get my Internet working(ive been usig my phone or school network). It half worked yesterday, long enough to get me to the NG3 DLC screen on the PS store just to have it disconnect before downloading anything Argh!! I'm also going through online fighting game withdrawals.

Laguna, I saw your invite but the net died before I could approve it.

Nope, Tekken has gone too far towards an anime style through out the past few installments to the point where it's just become silly. Tekken 1-3 built up a great cast of characters and stoy build around them, there's no family in gaming like the Mashima's. If you want to look at everything wrong nowadays, just look at Alisa, an immature mech, which apparently has sex appeal, chainsaws, jetpacks, and a grenade for a head… What?! I know previously Tekken had some fun or fantasy aspects like Gon or the Devil Gene, but Alisa is just silly.

While I am not buying this, I am content with Namco for releasing Tekken Tag 1 HD, to me it is the farewell party for the series. combining the best gameplay mechanics with some of the best graphics on the PS2. I will never need to buy another Tekken game again, which is a comfort, but sad at the same time.

I just hope they don't forget what made Tekken Tag so cool. For me was good soundtrack+good gameplay… that alone made the game wonderful…

Tekken Tag for the PS2 was definitely a memorable experience for me. One of the main reasons was actually its visuals. For that reason, I thought the Tekken series heading into this gen was really gonna bring the same revolution in visuals, but Tekken 6 proved otherwise. Not that it's gonna be a big deal or anything, but I hope this one looks better than Tekken 6. Other than that, I'm surely gonna enjoy its gameplay.

This is AMAZING news. Words cannot describe how excited I am.

I was so cynical that they would not give us more characters, but they did!

I can't believe the tekken team is actually giving us the final characters that we have requested for so many years! This is how you please the fans!

I am buying two copies of this, one for me and another for a relatives birthday…

I really hope this game sells well. Please support this title.

Its rare when you see developers give more than necessary in these releases. They could have just ported it to consoles the way it is, there are already 44 characters.

Now we get 50 plus! This is amazing! So much better after soul calibur cut so many vets out of the roster!

THANK YOU HARADA and TEAM TEKKEN!

its going to be released presumably next year.

They don't want tekken x sf and sf x tekken to impede each others sales
