Survival/horror aficionados will tell you that Resident Evil was not the first video game to adopt that label. In fact, it was Alone in the Dark .
And if you hadn't noticed, high-definition remakes have been big this generation; just about every major title and series has seen at least one in the past three or four years. So what about a high-def update for the original super scary title?
Well, given the gap in technology, it could be a definite challenge. But that doesn't mean the game's designer dismisses the possibility out of hand; in fact, Frédérick Raynal told Joystiq that he'd "love" to make that happen someday.
"I would love an HD remake one day and I hope it will happen, one day. I think Infogrames holds the rights; I'm not sure about that."
The last entry in the series arrived in late 2008; Alone in the Dark: Inferno was an updated version of the PS2 version, which was just downright awful . Thankfully, developer Eden fixed a bunch of major problems and turned Inferno into a decent horror title for the PS3. But wouldn't it be great to see the original AitD title redone in high-def?
Obviously, it would have to be rebuilt from the ground up, but we still say it'd be pretty damn cool.
I saw the newest one for sale for like $5 once, but never paid much attention to it.
But if the old ones were awesome, i'd love to experience these with a new modern console.
I had Alone in the Dark for 3DO and I still remember that darn worm that would eat me every time I walked by the door. I was not skilled enough to figure that game out no matter what I tried.
I would enjoy seeing a remake of sorts on as a downloadable title on PSN. I'd definitely be glad to give it another shot.

I have it for my Panasonic 3DO as well
Still have my original DOS version. There were other survival horror games before Alone in the Dark came out, but AoD put the genre in the public light. The NES game Sweet Home, is widely considered to be the first really true survival horror game, though not many have played it. Thanks god for ROMS and translation patches.

I honestly didn't know it went back that far, I thought it was always a first person shooter.
The original was brilliant, one of the best H. P. Lovecraft inspired games ever made. Survival Horror that made you think rather than just running short of ammo to kill zombies and collecting keys. It had more in common with text adventure games/point and click than it does with modern survival horror titles. I'd love to see a remake, though the pacing might seem weird to modern audiences.
id personally prefer to see a new game in the series.
survival horror games are one of those genres that do not pose well in todays age.
splinter cell is another perfect example, i freaking loved them back in the day but i just cant play them now.
gets so freaking frustrating firing my pistol and the bullet not going where your aiming.
back then that was part of the games charm, now it drives me insane!
modern conventions have made games like this almost unplayable!
Yeah the first one was pretty good , it was a real pain figuring out what to do tho .
