Ridge Racer Unbounded Delayed: “More Features” Needed

It's unfortunate but hey, it's better than releasing a mediocre product, yes?

You might have been expecting Ridge Racer Unbounded to be on store shelves, as it was supposed to arrive on March 6. But the game won't head to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 or PC until "later in 2012."

The extra time will give developer Bugbear Entertainment a chance to "pack the disc with features that will truly make the game sing." So maybe this isn't about a mechanical problem but rather a lack of content; these days, gamers need to be convinced that they're getting their money's worth with a $60 product. Namco didn't go into any specifics concerning these desired features, but they did say they'd make an announcement soon and give the fans the pertinent facts.

On the plus side, if you absolutely need some Ridge Racer action now, you can always pick up the PlayStation Vita iteration, which lands next week (March 13). Of course, that would mean you'd have to own Sony's new portable…you do, right? Well, either way, we figure Ridge Racer is an iconic, enduring franchise, and we'd hate to see a less-than-worthwhile entry on sale. So go to it, Bugbear.

Smart move. All developers should spend as much time as humanly possible to ensure their product is worth 60 bucks.

I have no problem in waiting. No one should.

Yes. In my opinion, it's much better than them having some of the content preserved for DLC weeks later, when they could just include it in the retail disc.

OH FOR F*CKS SAKE!
what is it with publishers this year and waiting for a game thats suppose to be out, and then announcing the delay!?
what happened to the good old days where games were delayed weeks BEFORE release, not after!?

"The extra time will give developer Bugbear Entertainment a chance to "pack the disc with features that will truly make the game sing."…Crucially, the Namco spokescritter was quoted as saying that "Bugbear will use the additional time to add an important element to the game – fun." Something that was sorely lacking owing to an incredible focus on making a Burnout Paradise like game, without any of the elements that make Ridge Racer, Ridge Racer. Additionally Namco felt that adding options such as "more than one available car", and "working controls" were important additions to what they feel is an excellent product so far.

…or at least that's what I heard in my head when reading this story.
