It's unfortunate but hey, it's better than releasing a mediocre product, yes?
You might have been expecting Ridge Racer Unbounded to be on store shelves, as it was supposed to arrive on March 6. But the game won't head to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 or PC until "later in 2012."
The extra time will give developer Bugbear Entertainment a chance to "pack the disc with features that will truly make the game sing." So maybe this isn't about a mechanical problem but rather a lack of content; these days, gamers need to be convinced that they're getting their money's worth with a $60 product. Namco didn't go into any specifics concerning these desired features, but they did say they'd make an announcement soon and give the fans the pertinent facts.
On the plus side, if you absolutely need some Ridge Racer action now, you can always pick up the PlayStation Vita iteration, which lands next week (March 13). Of course, that would mean you'd have to own Sony's new portable…you do, right? Well, either way, we figure Ridge Racer is an iconic, enduring franchise, and we'd hate to see a less-than-worthwhile entry on sale. So go to it, Bugbear.
