Images like these…they just open the memory floodgates.
If you occasionally pine for the good ol' 8-bit days, developer Brian Provinciano and Vblank Entertainment has a little treat in store for you.
It's Retro City Rampage and as the ambitious designer announced at the PlayStation Blog , his new project is not only coming to WiiWare and the Xbox Live Arcade, it's also going to arrive on the PS3 and PlayStation Vita.
This is an old-school open-world adventure "that combines everything you loved in classic games and mashes them up into a 'toon town' of nostalgia and parody." Mario-like, you can leap on pedestrians to grab coins, and then you can steal cars ala GTA and collect power-ups ala…well, pick any number of a hundred titles. Heck, there's even a light gun and a bionic arm. Retro goodness everywhere!
The really cool part is that beneath that old-fashioned exterior lies a jack-of-all-trades; a game that boasts elements from most every genre, including stealth, platforming, adventure, action, and even rhythm. There's even a full Story mode featuring over 50 missions, plus an Arcade mode with over 30 challenges and 25+ weapons and power-ups. The best part is that we don't have too long to wait: Provinciano told Joystiq that Retro City Rampage should arrive on all targeted platforms in May.
