Square Enix Profits Jump 175% Thanks To Deus Ex, FFXIII-2

Financially speaking, Square Enix is going in the right direction, if their latest sales results are any indication.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution and the recently released Final Fantasy XIII-2 were cited as reasons for the company's growth, as profits skyrocketed in the nine-month period ending December 31, 2011.

According to the numbers , Square Enix posted a net income of 5.01 billion yen ($65.78 million) in the aforementioned period, which is up a whopping 175% from the previous year's take of 1.82 billion yen ($23.8 million). Both of the titles listed above did well (remember that FFXIII-2 launched in December in Japan), and Square Enix's web, smartphone, and social networking services also contributed.

Overall net sales came in at 95.74 billion yen ($1.26 billion), which was down 2.5% from the 98.18 billion ($1.28 billion) posted the previous year. The company said their full-year forecasts have remained unchanged. Well, it's all a lot better than when we heard profits slid over 90%, remember?

I was honestly thinking it would have been lower because of FFXIII-2 but I don't know. I just want more info on vsxiii.

Very happy Deus Ex: Human Revolution sold so much. I read it sold close to 2.5 million copies. That's intense! Despite its flaws, it's probably one of the best games of last year.

Final Fantasy XIII-2… well, good for Square I guess. Let's hope they now start giving us information of Versus XIII now.

They probably wanna focus of KH3D right now, since it's coming out in March in Japan.

Congrats SE, with how much I enjoyed DE and FXIII I am glad. I introduced my nephew to FFXIII yesterday, his first rpg and he is hooked. Loves it, cannot stop playing it. I am watching him play and answering questions. I am itching to play myself now. Torn between FXIII-2 and KoAR. Decisions…..

Chances that any Kid is going to love FFVII is below 0.01% The game is old and it shows ALOT. lol It is a classic. But it comes nowhere near current gen titles in look and fluidity.

But pokemon is immortal. Weird you put it in the same boat since they still do new pokemons and kids still buy it. Do not see why enjoying FFXIII would take him away from that… In fact it might even be a good first rpg-light start towards awesomeness 😀

@ Neo_Aeon666

Well that's likely one of the reasons that there's been so much demand for a FFVII remake. I think it's safe to say that Final Fantasy VII combined with current generation visuals would make a most formidable combination indeed.

I hope the word gets around that XIII-2 is awesome and they get more $ out of it. I am really sad it did not get many 9s.

Reviewers should not base their reviews on the hatred of people (or theirs) for a previous entry. That's how I feel it was received. (not saying it was the case here) To me XIII is worth 8/10. XIII-2 over 9/10. They really nailed it with the changes and made it one of the most fun/addicting rpgs to play this year.

well hope they use the money to do the right thing, not as a signal to confirm their idiotic westernization crap and further the road for the wrong doings with the JPRGs….

It pains me to say this but I think this is actually going to have just that effect. I think it's going to lead them further astray.

WHAT? FFXIII-2 did good?!

Quick Put FFvsXIII on hold again and streamline FFXIII-3 and FFXIII-4! If we rush it we can get BOTH out before 2012 ends!

FFvsXIII becomes the new 'The Last Remnant PS3'

lol j/k. But… I could see this happening. I just pray it doesn't ; ;

Actually I believe there won't be a ff13-3. FF13-2 still has dlc to finish the conclusion of the game. At least that is what I heard from another site.

im surprised deus ex did not sell more then it did, i mean 2M isent really much for a well known famous IP.
i really hope $E put a new one out soon, its one of the very few IPs out there thats really interesting.
i just hope next time it has a better story, it was not exactly poor but too shallow and not really that gripping.
ending was definitely the biggest let down, talk about going out with a whimper!

2M is a lot. It's not a well known IP. It's a classic IP. Similar to Twisted Metal. TM, by the way, also hopes to hit that 2M mark.

It's not as well known as the 5M+ selling IP's at all. I think 2M was a success.

Deus Ex was one of the best games I played last year. (Fun=Easy Platinum). I want KoAR after playing that good demo. FF13-2…okay the game is addicting. I haven't stopped playing since I got it. IDK what else to say. I might have to wait on KoAR, 13 hours in and all I can think about is getting in front of my ps3.
