We've already heard that Killzone , ICO , and Shadow of the Colossus are on board, but what about the super heavy hitters? Don't worry, they appear to be on the way-
According to Joystiq citing the ESRB, both Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City have been rated for the PlayStation 3.
GTAIII is already available on Android and iOS and Vice City was a huge hit as well, so this probably doesn't come as a surprise. The games are gigantic, but perhaps they're only "gigantic" in reference to the generation in which they released; by today's standards, they're not quite so huge. Still, I was just playing around in Vice City the other day (my favorite GTA) and I have to say, that world really is pretty impressive. And you know, not much loading at all.
The last GTA title on PS2, San Andreas , hasn't been rated for the PS3 as of yet. But that was awesome, too, so here's hoping.
Please, please, PLEASE, Rockstar and Sony, tell me these are PS2 Classics REMASTERED in HD! If not then honestly, I'll pass.
Great games but I already own them on the PS2. I'd rather see them remade in HD with 720p, 60fps, trophy support, anti-aliasing, better textures, etc. PLEASE!
They're the originals, as far as I know.
Any HD remakes would probably be on Blu-Ray, I think.
Well, then no sale from me. I already have the games on the PS2. However, if Rockstar releases an HD collection though, that'll be a Day 1 purchase.
Good 'ole Vice City. One game I still play at some point every year. My favorite of the series. And my favorite decade to have lived through as well, meaning the 80's.
I actually played and finished GTA3. If these are released as they were, please, please at least fix the targeting system, or at least darken the target box color so I know who I'm aiming at.
thats fantastic news GTA 3 VC & SA. basically dominated my teenage years. i still play them all regularly.

This is disappointing news.. I always hoped Rockstar would do a hd collection. It would be nice if Sony added some ps2 jrpgs to psn.

If it has a good price I'd probably snag GTA III again just because I can't find my original copy any more.
i'm happy that San Andreas hasn't been rated as well.
Means there's still a chance of an hd remake of that game at least.
Can't they just put all three on a blu-ray disc. I guess it's good to charge them seperate, so u can buy the next game later.

Agreed world, It's obvious now it can software emulate or something the PS3. Unless I'm mistaken with these barebones back catalog releases.

that's why i picked up both of these in a bargain bin at Giant Tiger today… i'd rather buy them physically and play them on my b/c 80 gb ps3 than to buy them digitally :/ feel like sony really screwed the public by removing bsck compat, and then giving us this…
i still have my 10 year old GTA III i've had sense i was 12. its scratched to hell but still works. same goes for VC & SA
This is good news for those who haven't played those games or the ones who have lost their game disc.
On the other hand this sucks for the ones like me who happen to still have the game discs (only PS2 GTA III for me). It's a shame that SONY doesn't let us play them on the PS3 unless we buy them again.
I don't know how long my fat PS2 is going to last and also it would be nice to finally be able to play PS2 games on PS3. My 360 has no problems playing the Vice City & San Andreas game discs and does a good job upscaling it to HD by the way.
If SONY was able to get PS2 games runing on PS3, I wish they would let us play them too.
cmon rockstar, gimme the PS2 Trilogy bundle @ a discounted price
wish they would give them a HD upgrade, i mean come on id be the perfect way to spur up excitement for GTAV!
and of course add san andreas in there.
i will buy seeing as i got rid of my ps2
