IO Exploring “Different Aspects” Of Agent 47 In Absolution

If you're familiar with the long-running Hitman series, you know storyline was always a major component.

And in the new entry, Hitman: Absolution , developer IO Interactive looks to focus more on the protagonist, the mysteriously named Agent 47. Lead Producer Hakan Abrak told the PlayStation Blog that the team is trying to dig deeper; i.e., into the "personal feelings" of the bald assassin. When asked if Absolution was a re-envisioning or a reboot, Abrak replied:

"I don’t know that I’d go that far, but we are exploring different aspects of Agent 47. The story is darker, more personal. You get to experience Agent 47 being placed in an unusual situation. He’s not just taking on contracts; he’s being hunted and he’s hunting for personal reasons. If you’re a longtime series fan, you know that’s very unusual for the cold, calculating Agent 47."

Also, from a gameplay perspective, Abrak said the team wanted to create a "more complex, more believable artificial intelligence," and they used the Glacier 2 engine to realize their ambitions. We'll be very interested to see how Hitman: Absolution turns out…

Personally, I don't think storyline has felt like a "major component" since 'Silent Assassin.' 'Contracts' and 'Blood Money' mostly just played out as a long string of flashback sequences until the very end. Actually, the fact that 'Absolution' does indeed appear to be more story-driven than past titles is one of the most promising aspects to me.

I would say that Blood Money's story was a bigger part of the game than in past iterations. Even if your only taking the length of the cut-scenes into account.

Grated I was pretty young when I played Blood Money, I actually enjoyed the story. Where as in Contracts I had really no interest in the story.

I'm also excited for this game. I'm looking forward to the story and fast pace, just hoping that the game doesn't become completely action oriented.

I like the idea of a darker tone in gaming, as far as a deeper understanding of said character goes. Uncharted did it with it's third installment, and it was a hit or miss depending on the person. Personally, it was a hit. Anyway, these kinds of settings make the game a little more personal and that much more intriguing. With that said, there's an abundance that can go wrong with it. So IO has to hit it right on the nail to nail this thing. Sort of a risk, but, no risk no reward. I have high hopes for this game, REALLY high hopes for this game. But not too much to the point where it'd be easy to be disappointed. I have faith in IO.

From what I understand Diana won't be in this (for long)

Don't wanna spoil it by telling what i heard, even if it is a rumor, but I hear it's the driving factor of the story.

i REALLY dont like the sound of this!
sounds like their pulling some of the hardcore stealth for mindless action.
sigh.
can i have just one of my beloved franchises not mutilated, dragged through the mud and left for dead?
just one?
pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!?

Where in this article did they mention they were taking stealth out of the game? Hell, this article isn't even about that subject. And every other article I've read on the subject says that the stealth is still as big of a part of the game as it has always been.

And if you're referring to how they wanted to "improve" the action aspect of the game, need I remind you that you have always had the ability to shoot your way through every single level in Hitman? Sure, its hard as hell, but you can still do it. All they're doing is making it easier to go through it with action-only. If you actually read some of the articles about the game on this and other sites, you would know this.

So please don't get in everyone's face about how this series is somehow "ruined" when you obviously don't know what the hell you're talking about. Actually, why don't you just leave already? Then we wouldn't have to put up with your incessantly non-purposeful and utterly annoying whining.

I REALLY like the sound of this. I really liked the videos they've shown so far, and I think this will be one of the my favorites of the year provided they pull it all off. However, at this point, I'm not really doubting IO Interactive. They seem to be making the next-gen Hitman game that everyone (including blank line more than likely) wanted.
