Amazon was the place to be for many gamers in 2011, and that includes those who wanted either physical or digital versions of anticipated titles.
So what were the online retailer's top selling games of the year in both categories? Well, according to Joystiq , the physical media sales chart is no surprise, as Activision's gigantic blockbuster, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 , topped the list. But what about on the digital side?
As it turns out, it was Square Enix's excellent sci-fi RPG, Deus Ex: Human Revolution . Here are the lists:
Physical
Digital
EA should be happy with the digital list, as they've got half the chart; five of their titles made the top ten. As for Deus Ex , it's great to see so many people playing it because that's a bona fide gem, and well worth your attention. Read our review here .
I got the digital version of Deus Ex from Amazon for $10 during the holidays. It was a shockingly low price for being such a new game. The sale caried on for about a week with other low sub 15-20 sales running for a lot of December.
Dues Ex is a phenomenal game, and I am enjoying it immensely. Problem is, Mass Effect 2 has me hooked!
Human Revolution was a stellar title and deserves big success.
It was one of them incredibly rare times an entirely new team takes another teams material and recreates it with complete dignity and creates it like the team never changed.
Sure, it was no where near as good as the original, but the effort was through the roof! Complete respect to the original, didn't let the modern ways dumb it down and created a story worthy to the original (my main concern considering the original's story was majorly complex, original, intelligent and artistic).
It had a few minor flaws and at times felt like a tribute to the original, but we couldn't of asked for a better new team to successfully bring the genius franchise back.
GIVE IT UP FOR EIDOS MONTREAL!
I didn't pre order deus ex but I quickly purchased it (in physical format) after it came out and I noticed how awesome it was!
Good for Deus Ex!
I was able to pick the Augmented Edition disc version from Newegg right after release for 47.99
It contained the code for tactical enhancement package, a 40 page hard-cover art book, and the bonus disc which contains a 44 minutes "making of", E3 trailer, the DE:HR storyboard, a motion graphic novel from the official series.
And best of all, the game's fantastic soundtrack.
The soundtrack is outrageously good. Probably best of 2011 along with Skyrim and AC.
I was worried when they announced that they'd be going for total atmosphere over a melodical structure as it the 1st one. It ain't that i prefer melodical music, opposite in fact, but it was just that the melodical structure worked so well in the original.
But luckily for me, the new approach worked incredibly!
