Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition Dated

If you're looking for the ultimate MK experience, you need the Komplete Edition.

It was unveiled later last year and now we have a launch date. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced that the Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition will release on March 2 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Featuring all the currently released downloadable content, including new characters like Rain, Skarlet, Kenshi, and everyone's favorite nightmare stalker, Freddy Krueger, this is a very complete package. There will also be 15 Klassic Skins and three Klassic Fatalities; one each for Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Reptile. Personally, I've always been partial to Kung Lao's fatalities. I also remember putting that code into Mortal Kombat Trilogy so you could get one-button fatalities. …the only way I could see 'em all in one afternoon.

Mortal Kombat was a very successful reboot of a floundering franchise; it returned to the 2D fighting plane and introduced several new gameplay features. The brutality was there, the combat was crisp and rewarding, and overall, it satisfied a great many long-time MK fans. They all went- "Yep, this is the next-gen version of what I played in the arcades all those years ago. …exactly what I wanted."

That you were.

I have noticed these Editions are now turning into safety nets for gamers. They never seem to release any content after these special editions. It just sucks that we have to wait up to a year to get them…

I've been a massive MK fan since the very first game and while I really enjoyed the new MK, I ultimately thought that it took a step backward by removing the 3D fighting engine. MK Vs. DC was a fun fighting game (even though it wasn't a true MK game with its T rating and lame fatalities) and my favourite MK game to this day is still Mortal Kombat: Deception. It had an amazing fighting engine, great story and awesome bonuses like Konquest (I LOVED the Konquest modes in Deception and Armageddon [though Deception's was a lot better]). As a MK completionist, I'll probably pick up this "Komplete Edition" somewhere down the road, but not Day 1 since it's everything I already own.

So my question now is what is the incentive to buy any game these days during the initial launch? With all the DLC that is released which only tries to milk us for more money and then to later be included in a complete edition or game of the year edition at an even cheaper price than the first run batch of games it just seems better to wait. Unless you can score the original for a ridiculous low price (like I did for Batman and Uncharted 3 for $30 a piece during Black Friday) wouldn't it be in our best interest to not get ripped off by being loyal fans and buying day one? Who agrees, or am I off basis with this line of thinking? I want to support my favorite developers and the games I love but I'm kind of tired of buying something and then being punished for it later.

My thoughts exactly. We're paying full price for what really is a different delivery system. We should be paying less for full games now with the amount of seconday dlc we're getting, quite a few held off making it into the final game just to be dlc.

No, I fully agree it's a horrible sales tactic companies have been lurching onto. I actually fear buying games brand new due to complete editons later down the line. I knew New Vegas would get one so I just didnt touch the original release, now I have just lost interest all together in the title.

The biggest advantage is that you get to play on day 1. If you're so excited about a game that you don't want to have to wait a year to play it, then maybe it will be worth it.

This is actually similar to getting mad because games go on sale. I was able to get Fallout 3 for $7 off Steam a few weeks ago and I got a free copy of Arkham Asylum when I bought Arkham City. Is that fair when other people paid $60 for each of those games at release? Considering that those people got to enjoy those games for years before I did, I say that it is fair.

This is pretty much the same thing. Sure, people that bought it last year had to pay more (especially if they bought DLC). But they also were able to play it significantly earlier than people who are waiting for the Komplete Edition. It all depends on how soon you want to play the game.

I'm really happy that Mortal Kombat has had the success that it's had. The original was the last game I was really into before the arcade in my town shut down, so I have a lot of great memories from that. I also have fond memories of the SNES / Genesis war over the first game.

Unfortunately, I'm not as into fighting games as I was in my youth, so I'll probably pass here. But I must admit that the Komplete Edition has me tempted.

no offence, this is great news for the game and all the fans love the game including me. But really, I guess these days, the best strategy for any given games, is to not buy until all the DLC are released and they put that into a either "GOTY edition" or in this case "Kompleate" edition.

GTA4 did it, Uncharted 2 did it, RE5 did it, LBP did it, GT5 going to do it, now it is Mortal Kombat. I can't help but feel a little annoyed, even "furious" about this phenomenon in this gen, last gen or earlier, we already had it but not so much, at least far less from what is happening now….

that is why I missed those "no DLC" days in which if you are a game collector and completionist, you buy a game and you stick with it as your collection and that is all what you can get out of it and be happy with.
