And if you check the official Dead Rising Facebook page , it seems Frank West is coming back for a "new adventure."

Man, that sounds a little like Dead Island , doesn't it? Anyway, not long after, Siliconera apparently confirmed the existence of Dead Rising 3 . It'll take place in the fictional city of Los Perdidos, California, where a zombie outbreak has closed the town's borders.
But strangely, in contrast to the Facebook page message, Frank West won't be the protagonist. Instead, it'll be some mechanic dude named Rick, who intends to repair a plane and fly to safety before the town is overrun. In fact, flying will be a part of the gameplay, and the game will boast "an undercurrent of themes about illegal immigration."
Capcom hasn't confirmed anything just yet, but be prepared for a potentially controversial theme…
Games need more controversy to make gamers think about current worldly matters, and not just "Yesss I prestiged for the 9th time!". Don't get me wrong, it's fun to play games like that, but it's also fun and engaging to enjoy diversity. Sometimes I just want to kill shit, while other times I want to open my mind and really engage myself. I love it when games can tackle themes accordingly, and you're able to apply it to the real world. The new Deus Ex and Metal Gear Solid games come to mind off the top of my head.
As for DR3, I think it's great that they would tackle something like this and not having played the first two games, I might actually pick this up (I do have the second game just never played it).
No thanks. I play video games because It's nice to NOT think about controversial matters from time to time. That's what the rest of my daily life is for.
As with movies, video games with an agenda or a lecturing tone will not get support from me.
It doesn't so much have to be a lecturing tone as it does a questioning tone. I don't like things forced down my throat either, but I do like things that actually make you take a step back and look at it in a new light.
Like I said, there are times I don't want to think about these things either, but it's nice to know there are games out there that have capabilities of powerful literature or movies. As someone who thinks the gaming industry has the potential to be the best entertainment medium, we need fun but we also need some higher order thinking to go along with that as well.
Fair enough. I just prefer to not be forced to think about troublesome issues while playing games or watching movies when the rest of my everyday life is already saturated with it by other media.
Of course I agree we should indulge in higher order of thinking. I just don't think video games is the place for it. Especially when there is so much other content out there for that. Like books. 😉

I understand. Everyone plays games for different reasons. I just think to get gaming as a respected form of media then we need to include these issues in there. I personally enjoy it, as do others, but to each their own.
As a side note I know some people who don't like to read books (reasons could be anything, from not being able to concentrate, sit still, etc.) but they do enjoy games. Being able to show this whole group of people those same themes found in books is definitely a welcomed thing, as it can inform through an engrossing gaming story.
I read books as well, but I still do enjoy it in games, especially with decision making capabilities (I'm looking at you Deus Ex). I think having some games like this in the industry gives us diversity, which is great. However, like you said, sometimes it can get preachy, which does bother me too.
Well I have no problem with them putting a illegal immigration theme into a game…..
…..just as long as the game's home-base is Maricopa County, Arizona…….
…..and as long as I can play as Sheriff Joe too!
Capcom created amazing games for PS1 & PS2. Why do they have to rely on an inmoral theme to get their game notice. Killing zombies is fun, but is not enough to make me want this game. Can I get Dino Crisis instead!!.

Hope its better than Dead Rising 2… the game was good for the first hour till it got repetitive. Zombies quickly became a nuisance more than anything.
Goodness Crapcom has reay fallen. They're practically unrecognizable this gen.
I liked Dead Rising 2 beating the holy hell out of zombies never gets old especially when you mow them down on a motorcycle with chainsaws strapped on it.
My main beef with DR2 was the mission timers kept running. How can they expect you to earn some of these trophies when you only have time to do a side mission or a main story mission? Once I got done with one mission I had to rush to another mission before time ran out.
I hope they fix that in Dead Rising 3 because no one is going to check out the city if you gotta finish one mission quickly to get to the other before time runs out.
They don't really care, they can just cash in on Street Fighter and Marvel vs. Capcom a good 3-4 times this gen and come out alright with w/e flops they have.
I was disappointed with Off The Record when I reviewed it and DR2 before that when I rented it. This series is mired in last gen gameplay, it needs to come back in a big way. Dead Island was maniacal Zombie killing fun, Lollipop Chainsaw will be the over the top insane slayer fans of craziness want, and DR just needs to catch up big time.
I guess they will count on cable news channels for their marketing. Sad…

only crapcom could release a game, release some DLC as a full priced game, then announce a sequel only a month after the full priced DLC came out.
at this rate were going to have dead rising 10 by 2015!
and people say antivision is bad!
Dead Rising 2 was great. I'm looking forward to DR 3!
