Bioshock creator Ken Levine says he feels "no pressure" to help produce a film adaptation, and we don't blame him.
You've already got one of the most critically acclaimed franchises in gaming history under your belt, and we expect yet another masterpiece when Bioshock Infinite arrives next year. So why mess with a good thing? Hollywood tends to bungle things, anyway.
But this fan-made trailer for a movie that doesn't exist yet really makes us want that film. Thing is, Bioshock has always been about the unparalleled atmosphere and great storylines, which could definitely come to life on the big screen. This teaser has exactly the right vibe…
If you think Bioshock is "just another shooter," think again. You've obviously never played one of the games. This is a franchise that thrives on a great many artistic features and that's why it's so great; a talented director could really make a movie version shine. Don't you think?

nice trailer……i just hope if they do make a movie they dont change the story line and stuff in the movie it annoys me when they do that
The problem that movies have when it comes to being as good as a game, is that they require that the main character speak. That the main character be a "celebrity." Said celebrity also must have "face time." It ruins everything. A game like Bioshock where things happen without the main character ever even being seen, is downright genius. Movies can't keep up with that kind of narrative no matter how good your trailer is.
The relationship between Booker and Elizabeth seems to be pretty important in Infinite, so maybe in that game they can address dialog and face time in a way that a movie could adapt.
But you know, they'd just hire Mark Wahlberg anyway…
lol@Wahlberg comment, but it must be said: I've seen Mark in a couple pretty good movies lately. He's matured as an actor.
So good ol' Marky Mark should not be underestimated these days. Remember, even Johnny Depp started out as a teen tv series cutie (21 Jump Street).

I like Mark, but I don't think he has the range to bring a game character to life. They are so much more complex than any leading man in a movie.
Wow… Seriously? The average game lead character is much more complex than a movie lead character???
What movies do you compare the games with then?
Consider his portrayal of Max Payne, at no time did I feel this was a tortured, changed man run ragged by his circumstances.
It has nothing but a dead male in the seashore.
That's not entirely accurate.
Ah cool, but if they spent time on those action shots (and it looked that way) they shouldn't have compressed them so much.
I may get some backlash for this, but I think Tim Burton is the only man who could bring this world to life. Add a Levine script and lots of that old time music to it and then you got yourself a movie.
I think they compressed them so much to make it look like they spent time on them 😉
I'm pretty sure if you freezed every frame you'd see they are just shots of artwork, clips from original game trailers or game footage or something like that.

Cool, but I don't want Bioshock: Rapture. We've already done that twice. I don't want Bioshock: Columbia, we're about to do that. I want it to be an original entry in the series, keeping the themes and ideal of it, but new setting, characters, etc, like Infinite and the Vita game.
The trailer suggests an okay idea, an island. Yeah it's been done, but nothing's impossible to reinvent.
I'm sorry, but all this is just a kid lying on a beach… this is not a trailer of any sort, its pathetic!
I am studying a film and video production course and have notice many fan rip offs of games. It makes my blood boil! As I am actually trying to get an adaptation of Shadow of Memories (S.o Destiny) off the ground. I have a script ready now, in talks with my tutor on how to go about getting the rights and all that.
When you do, keep us up to date with any trailers you create.
I stand by my hopes of never to see a movie of any game I love as much as BioShock. But that said, the BioShock atmosphere, the setting, well it is so good and detailed that it could have been a good backdrop for a movie. It would have required a lot more of the storyline that what the games offer though, unless we just wanted a pure dumb action adventure movie, and no way I would have wanted that from a BioShock movie title.
Oh man how I look forward to Infinite…

Good God. That was awful.
Care to elaborate?
one of the very few franchises that could make a awesome movie!
just need the right director for it, and of course like the assassins creed movie the game studio should own the rights to it.
that way there always in control of what goes in, and when it releases that way we dont end up with another doom.
shudder!
i will never ever forgive the rock for staring in that giant heap of crap!
C'mon people, compared to actual teasers for big movies that was pretty good. There's out of place classic tunes, he's unconscious, well dressed, lying on a beach with a bizarre doll, you glimpse a Big Daddy in his scary diving suit, some action, then a psychotic man. Use your imaginations.
That is literally everything a teaser needs to be.
heck i wouldve not put in any of the Big Daddy stuff except for a small flash of him…
It was very very good.
Pretty good considering its fan-made. Might've been better if you could hear the waves at the beginning, the music faded near the end of the trailer to the sound of the action in those short clips, and if it had a title at the end. But like I said, considering the fan/fans who made this don't have the resources of a movie studio, it was very well made.

Thats the problem, game based movies are never made by fans! theyre made by hollywood directors who are out of ideas…
Oh and reading the comments above, does no one get the point of a TEASER trailer?
Has no one seen the miniscule amount of actual detail in the Dark Knight Rises teaser yet that was brilliant and generated enough excitement for the film??
A Bioshock movie would go down well I think 🙂
