Skyrim Ships 7 Million, Should Result In $450 Million Return

Sales equal money. Money equals good news for all those involved, right?

Today, Bethesda has announced the official ship numbers for their amazing new RPG, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim : 7 million worldwide across PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Therefore, Bethesda is now anticipating a return of about $450 million on those 7 million units, and they also add that over 50% of launch units were sold in the first two days. Now, provided that the 7 million reported and the "launch units" are one in the same, this means that approximately 3.5 million copies were actually sold in the first 48 hours. As far as we're concerned, the team is getting exactly what they deserve: financial success.

It's also nice to see hardcore, in-depth experiences proving popular; it essentially confirms that gamers are still a diverse, avid group that doesn't just flock to anything mainstream. If Skyrim and Dark Souls have sold well, I'd say the die-hard gamers are in good shape.

I don't get it… How expensive is Skyrim that they get $450 million on that?

7 million times $60 per game is only $420 million… and isn't part of that $60 going to the retailer? I highly doubt they would round down their shipped number.

They must be anticipating a return over the month or something… I dunno…

Either way, I'm glad it's having such success!

Collectors editions were like $150 each, so yea $450 million is reasonable, that's assuming around 600,000 collectors editions are sold which I think is achievable.

Also I doubt they count dlc in that number as well, but with the number of units out there, I'm sure they'll be picking up a hefty bit through their dlc. Always been a fan of Bethesda's dlc.
(No not the horse armor lmao, the quality of Shimmering isles is more like it)

Too bad they still lock in with xbox for 30 days…
at least theres enough to do in the game now for quite some time 🙂

I think you missed the "World Wide" part of the equation. Not everyone pays $60 a copy.

In Norway the retail price of a new release is almost twice as much as $60. It is insanity. No wonder I usually wait for price drops to import.

Special editions must be included to reach $450m.

The collectors edition is £130 here in England which is about $200 for you guys across the pond so I see how they could have obtained that figure.

Wish I could jump into Skyrim right now but I've got a backlog of games and a new internship thats preventing me from enjoying this puppy!

Wow, the gaming industry is a force to be reckoned with. Hollywood is just drooling over these figures. Nothing can stop this juggernaut.

Yes that is exactly it: It's extremely nice to see such deep rpgs as Skyrim doing this good.
Hopefully it sends one giant smoke signal to other rpg devs out there that not only can we handle it but we *want* depth and complexity! We reward it!

Good, now they won't have to make it a shooter.

So my retarded local Blockbuster didn't get in Halo Remake. I decided to play more Skyrim.. sigh. oh, the concessions one must make in life =p
Nah, no way. After finishing this major school project I hit up Skyrim last night. Hot dang, it's good stuff. I'm so very pleased a game of this kind is selling bucket loads. I know all of my geeky peers are playing it too, as it's been the buzz on campus. I'm loving it. I also went ahead (against sound reasoning as I have a million "haven't played games") I downloaded the Super Ultra Oblivion bundle from Steam for $6.50.

Yeah, it's nuts. My first few weeks during the quarter, game chatter was sort of quiet. With only Batman getting some open mention in group talks. But Skyrim, holy crap, they just as well reserve a computer lab with loaded copies of Skyrim for the students. Not a day goes by where I don't see someone in a hall loading it up on laptop or people in open conversation as to how absorbing and desirable it is.

An incredible achievement… well done Bethesda…. Picking up my copy for Christmas… Still got my birthday vouchers from January this year to use… With another lot coming from the company in January 2012… great, two extra games to add to the collection paid for by my employer 🙂

Bethesda so deserves this though. Every time I play the game I find something new that blows me away, I'm so happy I got it.

I wonder how Fallout 4 would look on this new engine though, I think it would be even more awesome than Skyrim 🙂
