Well, sometimes, there's one clear winner that dominates all from the start, and in this particular case, it appears as if no contestant will be able to challenge Gran Turismo 4 .
Easily your choice for the Best Sports/Racing game on the PS2, GT4 built upon the awesome foundation provided by its predecessor and made everything better. We got enhanced physics and graphics, better overall realism, and more tuning/mechanical options than ever before. It was a racing simulator's dream come true (and our dreams should come true once again when Gran Turismo 5 drops), and it provided fans with almost endless hours of awesome entertainment. The next closest competitor – Burnout Revenge – didn't even manage to get half the votes of GT4, but then again, we shouldn't have expected anything different. Although it didn't have an online multiplayer option, Polyphony's supremely polished racer was certainly one of the generation's best titles, and should lead the charge in the second week. Here's the top 5 (all racers); we'll have to see who emerges with the Silver and Bronze medals, because that might be an interesting battle.
Gran Turismo 4
Burnout Revenge
Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition
Wipeout Fusion
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2
Perhaps surprisingly, SSX didn't make the cut, although it's certainly one of the highest scoring games of the generation. Then again, as it was a launch title, the system did come a long way and later racing games were more advanced. For our part, we'd like to see Wipeout Fusion come up and snag a medal…but hey, that's not up to us. 😉
GT4 was the first GT game I didnt finish – too big for its own good! Nevertheless it is the best racing game IMO
Yeah it was the most engrossing GT to date, and the most difficult if I might add.
A true simulation mode on all levels, it was awesome.
Hard to beat though, but really awesome.
I still can't believe there are over 800 cars in that game…..really amazes me whenever I look at my garage 😀
What I love most 'bout the game is the tracks, soooooooooooooo many tracks, New York City, some of them in Italy, others in France, etc
Definitely THE racing game of Playstation2
Can't wait for the next one, then.
I was in a heavy relationship around the time GT4 came out, so i left gaming for a while. But, I did play wipeout fusion, and even though it was (the only wipeout) published by other than Sony, and it totally lost a traditional wipeout feel, the game rocked. Just check out a youtube clip of someone doing zone on level 50…blazing. It's amazing how well it holds up, even today. Beautiful musical score, too.
I never played God Of War II nor Gran Turismo 4 on the Playstation 2.
Would you guys say that GT4 was on par technically with God Of War… did the GT team squeeze everything out of the Emotion Engine?
Q!
"i aM hOMe"
I haven't played GT4, but I have played GOW2. It was one of the first games I got for my ps3 (with backwards compatability). Do yourself a favor, and pick up a copy, today.
The thing I hated about GT4 was that the B-spec driver would never pass the other cars and they sucked. I could waste all the AI racers, but I burned out the tires too fast.
I voted for NFS…

Hating it 'cause of B-spec
You have no honor… =(
Thats cause you had to work and train your B-spec driver to race and get better. You had to practice him for a while. Get used to it, Kaz has said that B-spec is coming back and going to be expanded upon the idea of being a race team director.
GT4 is my favorite PS2 game. GOD! I still play it. Its such an incredible game.
Waiting GT5……
amazing how the small little ps2 disc could fit so much stuff even when the stuff was high quality
I voted for GT4, but much more enjoyed for Burnout: Revenge 😛
But both is awesome games tough….
GT4 was like Tekken 5….complete,solid!
GT3 wasn't complete just like Tekken 4,there respective successors had everything.
Tekken 5 had all the great players plus new ones likewise GT5 had all cars plus some more.
I thought GT4 was crap- absolutly no sense of speed and no damage- i prefered GT3 and even thats not amazing
I think you're looking for the bull**** representation of speed that is burnout and NFS. GT is about looking realistic while racing not like being on a cocktail of coke, LSD and magic mushrooms while racing. The latter being NFS and burnout.
I miss the Vector! Those car were wicked looking! This game was kick and probably could hang nowadays. Especially with the the earlier debacles like Black Site and Soldier of Fortune…ewww.
I wasted more time on Grand Turismo 3 than I did with 4, even though I finished both games, but I finally need to get me a steering wheel finally, just imagine all of the frustration I went through driving with the controller instead of a wheel! I need a wheel for GT 5 or else i might get left in the dust online LOL!
Thats very wrong. One of teh 3 fastest guys in America uses a Control. Some are great with wheels, some with controls. You shouldn't buy a wheel to be faster. Rather you should buy it to increase the simulation of the game.
