MGS Not A Port In The Essential Collection

As of press time, we aren't certain if playing the original Metal Gear Solid will require an original PSOne memory card. Considering that Sony doesn't manufacture them anymore. Konami representative, Michael Shelling did also state "The original Metal Gear Solid will be appearing on PS1 discs. What this means for saving the game, etc, I am not sure." So hopefully Konami is smart enough to include a memory card with the game, or retool the game to have the ability to save on PS2 memory cards. Otherwise, if Konami drops the ball, then this is one of the dumbest, most pointless bundles we've seen in a long time. –

It's time to clear something up for all you MGS fans anxiously anticipating Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection for the PS2: it seems there has been some confusion regarding the original MGS, and how it would be included in this upcoming compilation.

Initially, it was believed the original Metal Gear Solid would be a port for the PS2 collection, which means we wouldn't have to swap discs and we could save the game to a PS2 memory card. However, it seems the Collection will be 4 discs, and 2 of them will be regular CDs with the original MGS included on them. All this according to Game Almighty, who received this clarification from Konami's Michael Shelling- "…to be clear, MGS1 is not a port; it’s the original game on 2 CD’s not a DVD." Therefore, you will need to swap discs and you will need a PS1 memory card to save your progress, just as if you were playing the original game on the original PlayStation.

When it comes to collections featuring games from past generations, obstacles and confusion can arise. However, Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection is still going to be a must-buy for any fan of the franchise, regardless of the preceding clarification.
