Atari Confirms Alone In The Dark For PS2

What to do when a publisher is facing financial struggles? Well, for one thing, make sure you release as many of your upcoming projects as possible on the PS2. Atari is doing just this, as they have announced their next-gen title, Alone in the Dark , will also arrive for the Wii and a last-gen console…yup, the PS2. According to GameSpot, Atari is in quite a big hole, and they have decided to expand beyond the originally announced platforms for this game (PS3, Xbox 360 and PC).

While Eden will be developing the next-gen versions of Alone in the Dark , Hydravision will be handling the Wii and PS2 versions. The game involves a dark mystery where mysterious – and decidedly evil – forces are at work in New York's Central Park. Most will say the first title in the series was also the first "survival/horror" title, as it released before Resident Evil , but RE brought the new genre to the mainstream masses. Here's hoping this latest iteration of Alone in the Dark will appeal to those masses…because if it doesn't, Atari could be in dire straits.

The game is scheduled to arrive in February 2008 for the PS3, 360 and PC, although we don't yet know if the PS2 and Wii versions will launch at the same time.
