Rock Band Confirmed For NA PS2

The PS2 is still going strong, so it's no surprise to see so many multiplatform next-gen titles still getting the last-gen treatment. At this year's Games Convention 2007 in Leipzig, we learned that Harmonix and MTV Games' Rock Band would be one such title. However, at the time, the PS2 version was only confirmed for Europe, and there was no release date.

That has all changed, though, as it has been announced that this slightly scaled-down version of Rock Band will also hit North American PS2s. And best of all for music fans who haven't yet taken the next-gen plunge, this will happen before the end of the year. They didn't provide an exact date, but that's good enough; after all, the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions don't arrive until November 20, anyway. If you do plan to pick up the PS2 version of Rock Band , though, just bear in mind it won't have the same functionality: you won't be able to download music, for example. On the other hand, it will boast a full-fledged single-player career mode, so that's good news.

You can see the list of 35 confirmed songs for the PS3 and 360 versions of the game in our latest preview , and so far, 10 have been announced for the PS2 version. This includes songs from the next-gen versions of the game, as bands like The Beastie Boys, Rolling Stones, and Clash are featured. See? Everybody's gonna get a little Rock band love!
