Harmonix To Shut Down Amplitude Servers

It began with Parappa the Rapper and eventually became one of the most widely loved and well-received genres in gaming. The rhythm/dance titles hit their stride in the last generation, and it wasn't just because of Dance Dance Revolution and Guitar Hero . We also had the likes of Gitaroo-Man , Mad Maestro , Rez , Frequency , and the sequel, Amplitude .

It was released in 2003, and almost instantly became a cult classic. But now, after three fun years online, Harmonix is pulling the plug on the game's servers, much to the chagrin of Amplitude lovers. According to Harmonix's Sean Baptiste, they'll organize one final "shindig," which is scheduled for Sunday, February 25 at 7 p.m. EST. If you're interested, make sure to log on, because sadly, it will be your last Amplitude session online.

And of course, if you want to nab those user-created remixes in the Remix Depository, you'd best get a move on. This is probably one of those times when you wish you had taken advantage of the online fun a bit earlier, isn't it? But you can take solace in the fact that Harmonix isn't going anywhere, and it likely won't begin and end with DDR and Guitar Hero in this generation. We're sure more online rhythm/dance entertainment is just around the corner!
