EA Announces Need For Speed: Most Wanted

The next installment in the massively popular Need For Speed franchise is set to hit the streets this coming November. Dubbed Need For Speed: Most Wanted, the new game takes the familiar "Underground" formula (illegal street racing and tuner customization) and adds police pursuits into the mix.

"Out-race your opponents, evade cops, and exploit the open road in Need for Speed: Most Wanted," said Larry LaPierre, senior producer, EA Canada. "Players will feel the thrill of the ride as they hit the streets in an open world environment where drivers can tune their cars to compete against any class of vehicles or use their wits to out-fox the law."

Unlike the "Underground" franchise, which has focused entirely on tuning and night-time street racing, players in Most Wanted will also be able to build up their rap sheet and earn street cred by driving recklessly and evading the cops–during morning, day-time, and night-time driving conditions. Players will go head-to-head with the top drivers on the scene, as well as strategically evade more than half dozen cops at any one time.

The game is mid-way through development and many features are still being finalized. As many as eight different play modes are set to be included. The ones we know about are called out-run, sprint, circuit, knockout, and milestone. Each mode will keep track of your best times, the number of police cars you successfully evade, and how much money you caused the state to waste in pursuit of your vehicle. Right now, the development team at EA Canada plans to pack the garage with nearly 100 different real-world autos.

We'll bring you additional details from this year's E3 show, which is set to occur next month in Los Angeles.

Need For Speed: Most Wanted will ship for the PlayStation 2 and PSP this November.
