Ben-DutkaOkay everyone, our first PSXE Best of the Best Poll has officially concluded, and as expected, it was an easy win for Final Fantasy VII .
FFVII was a legitimate phenomenon in the world of gaming, and many will say it's not only the best PS1 RPG, it's also the best role-playing game of all time. When it came out, it dropped our jaws and opened our eyes to a new world; a world with limitless possibilities for the future; a world that might even make grown men cry. These days, it may be considered comical to look back on those blocky characters, but anybody around for the launch of that game remembers the impact it had. It's no surprise to see it secure Best RPG honors for the PS1, nor will it be any surprise if it grabs best overall RPG in the future (although we do assume it'll be a closer race).
However, one little surprise- despite barely squeaking into Round 2 by 2 measly votes, Chrono Cross vaulted both Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy IX to take the Bronze. We're not sure where the newfound CC love came from, but hey, that's why we did two rounds! Here are the final results:
Gold: Final Fantasy VII
Silver: Final Fantasy VIII
Bronze: Chrono Cross
The Best PS1 RPG Poll contest brought in 2184 total votes, and obviously, the majority of you picked FFVII. The next round is up; it's the Best Fighter on the PS1, and this one will only last for one round, as there just aren't enough legitimate contenders for two rounds. After that, we'll finish up the PS1 era with Best Platformer, Best Action/Adventure, and Best Sports/Racing. As always, it's all up to you! And if you want to debate the polls, you can always visit the official Poll discussion thread in our forums.

N64 was underrated yet it has 2 games in the top ten greatest games of all time ie.Ocarina of Time n Mario 64 whiles psone has only tekken 3 at #10.

i didnt play a whole lot of fighters on the ps1 but tekken 3 is the reason i love tekken so much. TEKKEN 3 best ps1 fighter EVER!!!!!
The best RPG for PS1 or for all time, personally I think Chrono Trigger should top the list (altho it is originated on SNES, but there was re-release on PS1 too). It is such an Epic that nothing else can match, its winding and long-span story, its awesome music and tunes, its deep meaning and its emotions embedded. Personally, I like Chrono series over Final Fantasy series for RPG genres, but thats just my personal subjective opinion.
