PlayStation Stars Is Winding Down After Only 2 Years Of Service

Sony is shuttering PlayStation Stars after launching it back in 2022, only for it to be a headache just last year, what with policy changes and forcing them to do a regional rollout after a major outage.

On the PlayStation Blog, Sony revealed that the PS Stars program, in its current iteration, is winding down as they refocus and reevaluate what they learned from the program. While the actual reason is a bit up for interpretation, what is clear, though, is that PlayStation Stars isn’t completely dead, as they are obviously going to bring it back in some sort of fashion, based on their bullet points below.

  • Starting today, PlayStation Stars will no longer accept new members for this version of the program.
  • If members choose to cancel their PlayStation Stars membership starting today, it will not be possible to rejoin this version of the program, and members will lose all earned Points.
  • Current PlayStation Stars members can still earn Digital Collectibles, Points and level up their status until July 23, 2025 at 7:59AM PDT | 3:59PM BST | 11:59PM JST. After this date, there will be no new PlayStation Stars Campaigns available, or any additional rewards or status benefits to earn.
  • This version of the PlayStation Stars program will fully end on November 2, 2026 and current PlayStation Stars members can continue to redeem Points as long as their Points don’t expire before then.

Of note, any Digital Collectables you did earn will remain accessible even after the service fully ends next year.

This actually really sucks. I loved using this program to get what is basically free money.
Hope Sony brings something else out to replace it, and soon!
