Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will be featured in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid HD Collection , but Kojima Productions couldn't include the original title simply because it was too outdated. That doesn't mean we won't ever see the first MGS in high definition, though. Creative producer Yoshikazu Matsuhana told Eurogamer that they initially planned to include it so the collection would be complete, but the old classic just "has a very, very low polygon count." Added Matsuhana:
"While at the time the game was something new and refreshing, just bringing it as is into HD probably wouldn't have that much meaning to us. We're doing two and three with a certain work flow where the goal is to take that game, preserve it and introduce it to a new generation. We can't really take that approach with Metal Gear Solid 1 because it's very dated at this point."
He says that the studio hopes to deliver MGS HD at some point, but they'll have to "give it some special attention above and beyond a new HD lick of paint." This may include tweaking some of the gameplay (uh-oh) and the story so the update would be "proper." Unfortunately, it just isn't a project they can undertake right now.
Well, we can live with the "might happen" scenario.

Same here, MGS4 is amazing, but MGS1 is still my favorite.
Hands own one of the top 3 best games ever made.
Considering a sizable chunk of Shadow Moses was found in MGS4, I'd say they're already a good way into having it converted.
I think that deserves a spoiler alert, but yeah, they wouldn't exactly be starting from scratch if they ever decided to do it.
A spoiler alert? It's 2011, if you haven't played MGS4 yet then you need to get your gaming priorities in order.
But his reason for not doing a MGS HD isn't exactly valid, unless im missing something.

The gamecube remake of MGS? Which had graphics on par with MGS2 and 3?
Why can't they import those models and environments?

Some people have a huge games backlog, especially gaming collectors like myself, so that's not always necessarily true.
As for myself, I got into chapter 4, but have been stuck on defeating Vamp.
Blood, who here hasn't beaten MGS4? On the point, I think they might have to redo that data quite a bit, like changing it from daytime to nightime.

No doubt it's that! Seriously, I think Kojima would hate to see the original Playstation MGS to ever appear on the xbox.
It's just not right. It's like seeing the original Halo on ps3. MGS1 defined what ps1 was all about. Ground breaking cinematics and gameplay.
Could they have done that and put it on xbox? Didn't Sony have some exclusivity with the first game?
In any case, again I must ask about PSXE's inside information on an FF remake. What has become of that?

This was what I wanted from MGS 2 and 3 as well. But This will do just fine. Through it out with a 60 dollar price tag, ill buy it. It's still going to be worth more then a lot of games today, most games, even the good ones, should be about 40 like Games like Madden, COD, NFS, too name a few.
The collection is mine, the MGS1 remake I hope for dearly will be mine, but "MGS" rising I hope get's cancelled.
The game was always easy. Twin Snakes was a graphical port.
I just completed Metal Gear : Solid Snake (the 1st MGS) on my PS3 last week. The low polygon count didn't bother because even today that game is so well written and so fun. I have MGS2 and MGS3 for the PS2 but I honestly think that I'm going to wait for these remakes and replace them all at that time.
Again, MGS 1. What a damn good game.
It's sad that Konami's making Kojima port the MGS series on the 350 against his wishes.
As we saw in MGS4 a large chunk of some of the areas in MGS1 were used there so it's not like it's too hard like they say. If you ask me it has all to do with Kojima not wanting it to appear on the 350.
Would be amazing to see a full HD version of MGS1 in the future. I have Twin Snakes and it looks really good but a true ps3 quality remake would truly do it justice.
Let them remake it and have it by a PSN ONLY down load then. I'd be fine with that.
I would love to see this game in HD, but honestly, I'd prefer remakes of Metal Gear and MG2: Solid Snake. I think they could do a really good job expanding the stories properly. If they do remake MGS1, I hope they do it right. I would allow a few tweaks, such as the option to control the camera, and maybe retrofit CQC into it, but that's about it. I honestly wouldn't care if they didn't re-record the vocals. Just as I hope a FFVII remake would retain the text dialogue (however unlikely that may be.)

I wish I was really rich so I could fund a MGS remake using the MGS4 engine. MGS is still my favorite game of all time, hands down.
The MGS Remake will not be good because.
First thing music-
Music is what made Metal Gear Solid a masterpiece.If u hear to soundtracks such as "Duel" in boss fights and "Escape" when liquid is chasing u at the end.That's what makes this a thrilling and exciting experience.
Second Thing Voice Acting-
I'm sure the english version of the first Metal Gear Solid was awesome.David Hayter at his best.But after MGS david hayter's voice went downhill.IF he voices solid snake again now,i'm sure it won't be as good as the original.
In terms of Japanese voice acting,Snake's voice for every game done by akio otsuka is phenomenal but they need to bring back the original voice for naomi hunter to make it awesome.
Third thing Gameplay-
Gameplay if not kept same as the original then it will not be as good.Like the top down view of ocelot's fight.They need to have two camera's,Original cameras and also new 3rd person camera like subsistence.They need to put viewing triangle's for each enemy or else it won't be as good as the original.
Fourth thing Not Multiplatform-
MGS remake should really bring PS3 graphics to show it's difference from the original PSone version.XBox 360 is dead kojima.
I'm am really happy with Metal Gear Solid 1 on my PS3.If all these four points are assured then will likely buy the remake.

When fighting liquid snake when he was controlling the Metal Gear prototype, the music was so good to me that I was humming the melody as I was stategically fighting him.
They could make the gameplay identical to MGS4 and I wouldn't mind one bit.
Or Subsistence.
I prefer the Splinter Cell-inspired controls to those of the first 2 games. As long as they don't lose the stealth in favor of run-and-gun (unlikely), I don't fear gameplay tweaks.
I'm with you on that Jawknee. MGS4 is still one of my favorite games this gen.

Well, if the rumours of Rising having been moved over to Platinum games are true… this may well be on the cards with the Kojima team just being coy. Oh please, oh please, let it be true!
id love to see a metal gear remake, i remember playing one on the ps1 cant remember which one it was but i loved it!
i really miss those hardcore stealth games, sneaking through corridors, shooting out cameras, using gadgets to stake out your enemies, hiding dead bodies.
and if your ever seen by a guard, camera, or if a guard or camera sees a dead body its instant fail!
thats what i really am hoping for in the new hitman game.
really sick of the new stealth games, oh the guards saw you who cares just go hide for 2 minutes and they magically forget you were ever there!

Actually the MGS series had 2 game on the PS1.
A lot of people don't remember the "MGS:VR Missions" game(1999), where you were battling in over 300 classified operations against a slew of relentless killers.

The theme song to MGS was the best ever. Harry Gregson Williams did a super job on MGS2 and up, but that Irish Celtic singer that did the main theme to MGS was brilliant! It really helps preserve the integrity and significance of the story in the whole series.
They really should have put the first one there, I wouldn't care if it looked just the same with some smoothing, The first is still the best and always will be, BOO Kojima Productions

mgs1 is still my favorite mgs game. it had a really great story, and the voice actiong was very compelling. the conversations on the codec were awesome, and really sucked me into the game.
as for low polygon mgs1. what about twin snakes? that's a mgs1 remake brought up to mgs2 standards. that game was easy as hell becuase you could shoot in first person view. the original mgs1 game wasn't really designed with the player having that ability. the game dificulty needs rebalanced or something.
i'm pretty sure we will see a mgs1 remake. it'll probably be on the 360 too. peacewalker on the 360 is almost blashemy as far as im concerned. what's weird is i heard the silent hill remakes are ps3 exclusive. odd behavior from konami.
Oh sweet mama, please bring back Revolver Ocelot, Psycho Mantis, Sniper Wolf, Vulcan Raven and Liquid Snake… All in glorious HD!
It's nice to have all these remakes but I would rather have a brand new game made with those resources.
The PS3 potential has yet to be tapped and these remakes are not helping.
What about making a remake of the 2 original MSX games since they are mentioned in MGS and would tie in nicely with MGS and MGS3
