We only recently learned that Square-Enix had become the front-runner in the race to purchase Eidos, and now, the sale has been officially approved.
According to GamesIndustry.biz, the Tomb Raider publisher will come under foreign ownership next month; Eidos shareholders "voted with an overwhelming majority to accept the bid by Square-Enix." The offer is 32 pence per share, and the Final Fantasy publisher has taken another step in their push to appeal to a Western gaming audience. The additional details from GI are:
"At a court meeting over 85 per cent of the shares held in the company were represented in votes cast to accept the bid, and at the subsequent EGM the motion required to implement the acquisition was also approved."
So, it won't be long before Square-Enix has full ownership of the Tomb Raider , Hitman and Championship Manager franchises, and you can expect there may be a few changes in store. But who knows how Square-Eidos will function or what they might produce? All we really want to see is how this new acquisition will affect Square-Enix, and what sort of games we can expect to see. At the very least, it'll be intriguing.
Well… here's hoping we don't see any lame crossover titles…

Yawn
What was Eidos last great game?
They haven't done anything great since the Playstation1 Tomb Raiders 😀
Go Square, overspend your ass on garbage like Eidos.
Oh and by the way, they're doing all of this with the money Microsoft gave them.
Did you forget the Hitman series or the game Freedom Fighters?
let's go Square-Enix keep raking those hits for Your beloved 360,And keep taking a dump on us ps3 owners while you give us the middle finger.
Great for them tomb raiders exclusive to 360! cheers.
So what do we call these gomers now? S.E.E.? Can't they SEE this is gonna bite em in the ass? Oh well, like scarecrow said "Yawn"
If this muddles up Final Fantasy in some way then I'll begin to be upset. The crossover potential is just horrible…
we gonna get final fantasy, tomb raider style xD.. big juggies with guns.
Squeedos Presents: Lara Croft: Fantasy Raider
This is just another ploy to "APPEAL TO THE WEST".
I have to say, I don't get it. The FF series is HUGE here. Did't they already appeal to the "west" before they started messing things up?
Square-Enix is now becoming the new EA. To me Square-Enix is changing to be like garbage and thus in time they will become Squarebage. Lets just hope they will learn a thing are two with western developers.
My thoughts exactly
They wanna be the "EA of Japan"
Money hungry pigs!
They can rot for all I care, there will still be rpgs with or without them.
It still scares me a little because a small part of me thought Square might see the error of its ways and start making quality RPGs again. But since their 360 exclusive RPGs are failing and they DO look like they are becoming the next EA, then won't we see a bunch of mediocre multiplat RPGs in the future? What a way for a company to screw it's products and fans.
Lots of negativity in this room, let's see what they do with the newly acquired publisher before we go for the throat people.
I have misgivings about this merger as well, but let's not mob up till we see where it's going.
Its just… its just that we already bought our torches and pitchforks for the last few times they screwed up. We gotta get some use out of them ya know? 😉
Well since you've already bought all the supplies, it wouldn't be very thoughtful in today's economy to let anything go to waste so…
ok, just one pitchfork poke in the CEO's ass and… I guess we can torch his car. lol
LEGACY OF KAIN RPG!!!
i just hope square, doesnt mess up the hitman games, leave them as they are….
Great, more mediocre exclusives for the Failbox360. I'm going to rush out and buy one to support two of the most greedy and unethical companies out there, SE and Microsoft………..NOT!
Don't compare SE to EA I really think EA is a better publisher than SE atleast EA was able to learn from their mistakes and listen us fans, even though EA is all about making money they know how to go about it making good business decisions, I could care less about this square > eidos thing I'm through with SE
PSN ID Biggest_GMoney
Hitman!!!!
They better not screw Agent 47 up, that guy was as good as he gets in the 6th gen, I want some improvement in the 7th but with SE I doubt it a little.
Square, Square, Square, how many mistakes do you have to make this generation? You guys are just screwing yourselves over this generation man! Get with it. After FF13Versus and Kingdom Hearts 3(If it is) is released, and I'm done with SE for this generation, I've just had enough of them, and I know most of you agree with me.
Oh, and by the way good news, I found this gameplay video of Uncharted 2, if you haven't seen it, check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPRN8_bRCXA&eurl=&fmt=18
Are you not aloud to post links here? I don't comment often so I don't really know, if your able to post links or not but just to tell you guys again that there is a new gameplay video of Uncharted 2, go on Youtube and search
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves – New Exclusive Gameplay the video length is 2:19, its easier to find it this way then
they just need to be approved, looks like yours was 🙂
ah, sweet there we go! So did the video work?
UPDATE: The video got deleted by SCEA sorry guys…:(

Don't worry people, Square will start releasing games on the PS3 soon. The war has been lost in Japan. X360 is a joke there. Square games are still more popular there than anywhere else. Ps3 is at the top of the console charts this year. It will happen soon.
Anyone checked the Japanese gaming hardware chart for this week?
The 360 sold 5000+ while the PS3 sold 20000+, shows that the Japs only love the jrpgs on the 360.
Thank god Eidos have no more to do with Football Manager on the PC. They decided to go their own way. Almost ruined a good pc game ffs!
This is Crap. Square… Square… Square. -.-
To be honest I could care less about Tomb Raider. Never liked it and never really played it.
I just want a new Hitman and Legacy of Kain!!! How awesome will it be if the make two new versions of these games running on the White Engine… maybe even more RPG style of gameplay.
But if the go Xbox exclusive on that, I will blow them the F**** up.
Once again, I find myself asking, "What in the name of all that is sacred is S-E thinking?" I study business trends a good deal within the gaming industry, and you'd have to search far and wide to find a company that has made more unspeakably poor business decisions than S-E and lived to tell about it.
If FFXIII somehow falls well short of the hype, (and that's entirely possible), S-E could, in reasonably short order, find itself in a world of hurt. There are just TOO MANY hungry, talented game developers out there for me to think otherwise.
The statute of limitations for S-E to ride on SquareSoft's coat-tails is about to expire…
