Update: This is why marketing guys shouldn't be breaking down gameplay during interviews. The marketing representative in this video is clear, but we have direct confirmation from Capcom that the information is inaccurate. We have the final review build for the game and there is NO option for run 'n gun (moving while shooting), and there isn't going to be, either. Sorry for the confusion.
Original Story:
Okay, so as some of you may or may not know, we do have a build of Resident Evil 5 in our possession. Obviously, we won't be able to talk about it for a while longer, as the embargo date for reviews is still a ways off. However, an interesting conflict has arisen…
In our time with the game, it seems we can't adopt a "run-and-gun" style of gameplay; in other words, the controls are the same as they were in RE4. Translation? You still can't move and shoot at the same time. This is a major issue from our standpoint and one that is guaranteed to be highly disappointing to those looking for a more action-oriented innovation in RE5. But if you check out this OXM video , head of marketing at Capcom, Mike Webster, confirms that such a control scheme (called simply "Action Control") will be included in the final retail version of the game. If you start listening at about the 1:20 mark, Webster clearly defines the option for those of you looking for a more Gears of War , fast-paced gameplay format. Provided the information is accurate – and we'd hate to think such an option is only available in the 360 version – we shouldn't face the exact same control limitations as we did in RE4. We didn't want to believe Capcom had completely ignored its fans, you know?
Either way, Resident Evil 5 will be one of the biggest releases of the year, but without that feature, a whole lot of people are going to be upset. Many others may not care – they just loved RE4 and they don't require a change – but such gameplay enhancements are good for everyone, especially when they're presented as an option.

nice. needed feature.
Resident Evil has never used it.
it adds to the survival factor.
if you want a more action oriented experience… feb 27 is the date for you.
i personally miss the large creepy mansions, and secret hidden laboratories.
BRING BACK THE T-VIRUS!

true Akuma.
i never found it to be bad in Resi 4,hell i didnt even notice.so i will just get lost in the amazing-ness of this Resi to,hopefully.
Sh*t I didn't notice either.
yea i neva noticed either.
Hmm. We can all agree on one thing…cuz I didn't event realize it either.
I just don't like having my hands tied, so I'm glad they're adding the patch. What they could do to maintain the balance is to reduce the reticule focus when moving.
That didnt bother me really. It give the game more of a challenge. I probably wont use this.
Hey Ben, when does the embargo lift for RE5 then? 😉
My hope is they don't transform the franchise into a pure action affair. I realize that this is an option rather than an overhaul, but I think RE could be started down a road that change it for the worse.
demos up guys!
Came home for lunch, downloading right now!
GREAT! it will be jsut like every other 3rd person game this gen…
There goes any originality and tension then.
The more power you have the less scary it is!
But I don't blame them for puting it in after everyone freaked out… can't gamers stop complaining, its an unnessesary machanic that was not originally intended and will turn resi into dead space.
grrrrr
horror is dead … ect
I liked the demo and I can see it being a very good co-op game. that's it
I'm with the people that think this is a bad idea. RE has always been about strategy, survival, and resource management. It is NOT a third-person shooter.
-Arvis
I want to give the demo a try but stuck at work.
in a single word the demo is "SUPERAMAZINGLYAWESOME"
i just made that up but its true.
the only people giving out about the controls are the gearshead who never bothered to play re4 because it was on gamecube & then ps2!!
of course there will be some who never played a RE game or some that have come back since playing RE1-3 & RE CVX but the controls are 95% the same if not exactly the same from RE2 to RE4.
There not that hard to pick up,accuracy can decide ur fate in RE games.
Cant speak for handguns(illegal in ireland)but try running and firing with a rifle and see how accurate your shot is not to mention how bloody heavy said rifle is(no wonder chris has been hitting the steroids),accuracy with a shotgun is'nt a factor at close range but same as above.
This demo is alot of fun online and i cant forkin wait 4 the game to hit 😉
i'd say the new aiming method will incorporate a slow walk like in Cold Fear(freakin savage game)
PSN ID:lord_carlos
add me and we shall kill lots of different races together in RE5 demo 😛
No RE has ever had the function, doubt I'll even use it.
good to know that they have an option for the control. i might pick it up after all.
I just spoke to a PR at Capcom and he just informed me this is incorrect. I think Webster confused the ability to strafe with being able to run and gun. So, a retraction may be in order.
Sorry guys.
Good! No RE:TPS Edition!
Btw, Arnold, is that a 350 as your avatar? And if so, is it YOUR 350? Are you going to trade up for one of the new 370s? 😉
-Arvis
Oh, it's his. And as he likes it more than the 370, I doubt it. I don't want to trade mine in, either.
P.S. Story updated with correct info.
Hm kinda figured it was too good to be true… Looks like he was just talking about the gears inspired control set up (option D I think it was in the demo) that's already in there.
Personally i think the RE4 setup is much more comfortable than all the others.
Yes, that's my car. And no, I won't be getting a 370Z. It's pointless, because it looks ugly (imo), actually weighs more (despite Nissan's BS), and is no doubt slower than my particular Z.
I just played the demo and the control is unsuitable for the game. After playing games with similar action to RE5 like Gears Of War, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, GTA4 and Dark Sector, I simply can't go back to this archaic set-up circa 2005. I'm afraid I will have to buy this one much later. Sorry, CapCom.
Fail, Re isn't supposed to have similar action to Gears.
I agree with bighat. As a non-fan of the series (only playing 4 on Wii) the first two issues that came up when playing were the lack of customizable controls, and the lack of run-and-gun; the latter being a bigger issue. You can always get used to the control scheme, but not being able to move while shooting is just a poor choice IMO. MGS4 was able to successfully update its controls for the new-gen. Why isnt Capcom doing the same?
It's kind of a staple of survival/horror games that aren't first person.
good, everything is as it should be.Any decent gamer will get used to the stop fire control scheme fairly quick.
I played the demo on xboxlive other than the X360 controller suxing ass. The game play is very much like past RE. If you played all the past RE you would have no problem with this "stand and shoot" play. The demo was too easy but creepy. This is a must buy on the PS3 if your a RE fan. RE games just feel and respond better on Dualshock. Btw I have RE4 for the gamecube.
I hope that the final version of the game will include this "action control" feature.. To be honest, I'm more interested in playing RE5 than Killzone 2. RE5 is one of my most anticipated games for the PS3.
Yeah I played the demo on my 360 and it didnt have any controller options.
i dont get it i luved resi 4 and dont mind the stop to shoot thing but couldnt they just do what dead space did and have it walk slowly and shoot
I played the 360 demo and it had 4 controller options I believe. A,B,C,D. Already have the PS3 collectors edition paid for. Come on it's Resident Evil man…

i didn't even notice but i agree RE is about strategy and survival.played the demo today LOVED IT
I cant seem to get into it. I just hate how I run from an enemy, only to turn around and see him right back in my friggen face again! It works with zombies, not with more intelligent beings. I know RE has never had the run n' gun feature, but this one might need it. If some one came at you with weapon, do you just stand still and aim? Or do you try to move around a bit?

Okay let's lay this thing to bed my friends, who survives in the zombie movies? The guy who stops, aims, and blows off a zombie head. Who dies? The guy who runs and guns and runs out of bullets cuz he can't hit a damn thing anyway.
Played the demo and . . . think I'll be canceling my reservation. Did not like it. Tons of enemies and no ammo, where does that get fun? I prefer the old school Resident Evil, when it was still survival horror.
Isnt that kind of the point? To use your bullets carefully and wisely without getting killed (read: survive the horrors)
But how is it fun to have more enemies than bullets? I died early and often in the demo which equals no fun for me. If I felt like I had a fighting chance I'd probably love the game.
If you beat RE4 then you'll survive this one.
Loved the Demo. It's just like RE4. Can't wait.
Yay!
I think they don't want things eazy for us,maybe is part of the survival horror, run n gun would make things a lot more easier but it's not a bad thing.
Surprisingly i didn't notice this in RE4!
Run´n gun is not the point for me. But the charakter is moving like a robot. And the camera is not adjustable. Not my game, anyway – I don´t think the controls will make the gameplay fun from an objectiv point of view. Cant be! (Ok for real masochists maybe) 🙂

Look at Dead Space – this was really scary too and you had a whole bunch of moving, shooting, looking possibilities. A survival horror game is not defined by poor controls in my opinion
I just played the demo. Let's face it – IT'S NOT SCARRY AT ALL! I really miss old style RE, with it's creepy atmosphere, danger waiting around corners, isometric view and zombies. Yes ladies and gents – ZOMBIES. Not some friggin' lunatics running with axes and chainsaws. I want hunters, chimeras, I WANT NIGHT, not daylight. I want puzles! This is what makes true RE a horror. RE5 is just action-pumped-beautiful-graphics-game. I'm a big RE fan. When RE4 came out I obviously played it but i finished it only because i wanted to see the end. I wasn't really turned on by new style of RE4 and that I'm fighting some "monks" and vilagers. I still own a GameCube that I bought especially and only for 2 games RE:Remake, RE:Zero and I still play it from time to time. Those are the greatest RE ever imho. Who cares that locations were prerendered, if they looked stunning along with characters.
RE has lost it's soul somwhere along the way and I don't think will see it again. That's how it is – Capcom will make games on their own and knows that they will sell, because it's "RE" after all….
And I'm buing it too, but I'm not exited about it anymore.
Shame on you Capcom.
u mean those zombies are scarrier than those guys with a chainsaw/the big executioner with the fattest scythe itw runnin' n not creepin' at you n u don't find it scary??????
R u sure u've played the RE5 demo?
Does anybody see it the way Jacksparrow here sees it?
Slow-ass zombies with their hands stretched out without weapons….SCARRIER than fast-paced infected enemies with weapons who come in large numbers n can "game over" u in a sec with a chainsaw or some other…….HUH??????
u must be kiddin' me,u're entitled to ya opinion though but this………naaaaaaawwwww!
