Looks like PlayStation fans are pretty convinced that Sony will soon drop out of the portable gaming business for good.
In our latest poll, we wanted to know if you thought we'd ever see a Vita successor, and the answer was a resounding "No."
A good number said Sony should try to make another handheld, but we probably wouldn't see such a unit. Toward the end of last month, Sony boss Shuhei Yoshida admitted the current portable climate is "unhealthy" and that kicked off a firestorm of discussion. Obviously, the implication was that with the explosion of mobile entertainment, it would be exceedingly difficult – and perhaps foolhardy – for Sony to try their hand at a Vita successor. And maybe they should just leave well enough alone.
Moving on, based on the news that Sony might soon discontinue PlayStation 3 , we wondered how the previous generation console would be viewed in the future . In comparison to the other PlayStation home consoles, where would it rank? We said dead last but what do you say?
I don't think it'll be viewed as the worst of the PS consoles. I think third place is fitting for PS3 (no pun intended). I don't think any console will surpass PS2 but I think PS4 can take PS1's place for number 2.
Wouldn't that leave the ps1 in number 3 though?
I don't think worst is the right word because there is no bad Sony console, but compared to the others it may be last.
I don't think I can answer this question very easily.
The new consoles have always been my favorite one to play on. Although the PS2 sold the most so far and had a huge library, I remember it having a design flaw that kept it from rendering anything in perspective properly. That didn't bother me, but I think should be considered a mark against it when compared to the other playstation systems.
The PS3 will always be viewed highly favorable in my book. I don't feel right calling it the worst of the four. As a matter of fact, I won't give any of the four a worst of the bunch status, as I have enjoyed playing them all.
PS3 was my favorite, and i have been around since before psx days. It was during the ps3 era, that Sony's first party exclusives began to really set themselves a part from the pack, with Naughty Dog being the leader. And while the PS4 is not disappointing me in the least, and PSN has come a long way, online play was free back back then. And, i just whipped out the Vita after a long time during a road trip. Yes, it had collected some dust, but i was still blown away by the games i was playing on it.
Can't really predict the future but I can think of it as my best right now.
I suppose Vita doesn't really need new hardware anytime soon so I'm a little less offset by Sony's recent comment. I just think they handled the Vita poorly and should've done more to stay in the fight. Instead they straight up gave up on providing us top of shelf mobile games and now just rely on indie's to do the work. I don't trust them as much as a game company anymore.
