Sony: Vita Has Biggest Launch Lineup In PlayStation History

Yeah, you gotta have the games if you want a new piece of hardware to succeed. Sony appears to have finally learned that lesson.

Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced that the PlayStation Vita will enjoy "the biggest and best launch lineup across the history of PlayStation platforms." This will include recognizable, popular franchise names and promising new IPs.

The press release says Sony's new handheld "has the full development support of the gaming industry, including SCE Worldwide Studios and all third-party publishers." All in all, this will result in no less than 25 available titles on the first day of the Vita's availability. Featured on that expansive list are the likes of Uncharted: Golden Abyss , Wipeout 2048 , Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational , ModNation Racers: Road Trip , Little Deviants , and more.

Pricing for Vita software ranges between $9.99 and $49.99; they'll be available via PS Vita game cards at retail stores or digitally via the PSN. Said SCEA president and CEO Jack Tretton:

"PlayStation Vita is the ultimate portable gaming device, offering all of the interface, controls and social connectivity that gamers have been dreaming about to deliver unsurpassed entertainment and completely new ways to play. PS Vita features the most extensive launch lineup in PlayStation's history, and there are more than 100 games in development, ensuring that PS Vita gamers will always have a steady stream of amazing titles at their fingertips."

The release finished by saying the Vita "is unmatched by any other mobile device in the market." With the 5-inch OLED mult-touch screen, rear touch pad, dual analog sticks, dual cameras, and the Sixaxis motion sensing system, it's one hell of an advanced unit. Don't forget that the Vita will also interact with compatible titles on the PlayStation 3; it's one of the most appealing features.

Yeah, February 22 isn't too far off now. Everyone ready?

It's entirely possible that I'll spend as much on launch titles and a memory card as I do on the unit itself. And you know, that's not really such a bad thing considering the games and technology on offer.

You may know, does the Trophies you get from playing Vita games link to your PSN ID?

Apparently, yes. Your PSN account is the same on both systems and people with (only) PS3s have reported spotting PSV trophies on other peoples' accounts.

I'm ready, I'll just have to make sure my wallet is ready for all this greatness. I think I'll be ready for at least the Vita, a game, and a memory card by 2/22. I know a lot of people think its too expensive, or that they should wait a while, but I'm confident in Sony to deliver a great product and quality games from day one.

everyone else yea its ok, but JP and HK is seriously lacking!
i got 6 games with mine yesterday, little deviants, army courpse of hell, dark alliance, shinibido 2, asphalt injection and dynasty warriors NEXT.
and as usual, there all pretty mediocre.
little deviants is my favourite so far but, well, its not exactly warranting a purchase.
thank god i did not pay for it!
im downloading golden abyss now, but, well, its been downloading for 21 freaking hours!
and its only at 30%!
dunno why this sometimes happens, but sometimes PSN really slows down for me.
sometimes i can download 3+GB games within 3 hours but other times a simple 1GB demo takes days!
really annoying too, i went for the HK store instead of the JP store because some of the games there are in english where JP store everything in japanese.
and now im regretting it because allot of the games on the JP store are not on the HK store!
power smash 4 being one of them, really pissed off i REALLY wanted to get that!
oh well, i guess ill have to import the retail version.
wonder where wipeout is wasent that suppose to be a JP launch title?
could of swore it was, but i cant see it anywhere!

The 2nd best thing my ex gf bought me was the original PSP, what a great handheld system. I can't wait to get my hands on the Vita.

The best thing was an ice cream maker.

Ice cream……….maker?
How did that rank above the PSP?

There's a question in my head though, will the eveolution of smartphones hinder the sales of handheld console?

Obviously it won't kill the handheld market but will it slow it down?

Well the 3DS is having record sales so I don't think so. People that play games on their phones I doubt would have bought a PSP or DS had they not had a smartphone.
